| reply to Lazarus_Long Re: Lets create an FAQ for hnFAPMon
To get the Monitor working on Linux or Mac you need to install the Tk module for Perl. On Ubuntu you can install the 'perl-tk' package from Synaptic Package Manager, and it looks like the installation on openSUSE should be similar since they have a 'perl-Tk' rpm package. On your Mac you can try: That command should work on Linux too, but on Ubuntu it wouldn't. The Service requires a few more modules to run, but I haven't got all of them to install in Ubuntu yet. |

| reply to millham good forum, much needed.
read the info on HN updates breaking modem defs and it seems I am a victim.
downloaded the latest modem def from sourceforge for my DW6000 date 10/31/2007 and latest 6000 version is 5.4.1.8 command 63
my FAPMON has stopped working and I when I telnet into it I see that the version is 5.4.1.11
Can I edit the modem def? what determines the command no?
FAPMON also works (used to work) on my SuSE Linux 10.3 laptop |

| Yes. Open the modem def with notepad and overwrite the version and the command number. Command number can be found here: »192.168.0.1/fs/advanced/advanced.html In the left menu expand PEP then mouse over PEP summary. In the link (shown in the left lower corner of the screen) you will find the command number.
After these changed are saved in notepad, stop and start the service again. -- dw7000/.98m/2watt/Horizon1/1390/256k4/5 /xp sp2/desktop compaq 6330CA/linksys wireless/thinkpad xp pro/Toughbook CF-28 xp pro |

| reply to millham As a newbee to all this, I sure am glad I have found this site! I have been on Hughesnet for about a year now and usually get FAP'ed 2-3 times a month. My question....
I just downloaded the latest files, ran the installer, and nothing happened. I do see the folder 'hnFAPMon' under 'program files'. Where are the pgm files? How do I run the program?
#2- How accurate is hpFAPMon? Or maybe, If I use the info showed by it, how close can I push the d/l limits, and still be safe? (that is assuming I am able to get it to run )
Even tho most of what I am reading here is WAY over my head, I am learning and do appreciate the info so many knowledgeable people have to offer, not only on 'hpFAPMon' but Hughesnet in general.
Thanks ! |

hnFapMon is working again
For anyone who needs it, follow the instruction to edit the modem def for the 6000 and version 5.4.1.11 = command #66
hnFapMon to monitor and FlashGet to schedule downloads 0300-0600 and Hughesnet is tolerable. |

| reply to millham I'm here at my computer at 3:44 am EDT (7:44 am GMT) and hnFAPmon thinks it's DAY. I've looked at my fap.ini file and it says DSTStart=7. So that LOOKS right. I thought I'd redo things with the hnModemDefs Setup.exe, which I did do recently, but I've still got this problem.
Can anybody help me out here? Why isn't the FAPfree interval being detected correctly? |

| I don't think hnFAPMon is using the DSTStart and DSTEnd times yet. Try Start=7 and End=10. That fixed it for me when the time changed. -- HN7000S|Pro|.74m|1w|Satmex6|1250Mhz|WRT54GL/DD-WRT|Vista x64|Firefox 3|2000 GSXR750|1999 VTR1000F|NESBA 574 |

| reply to millham Looks like it might be a nice program....if it worked. I have a DW6000 modem and I installed the downloaded file, with service on One computer. Still shows 100% bucket available and no upload or dowload activity. I'm static IP address, one of the commercial producers with a registered static IP address. Does that make a difference? -- Verns didgeridoo info: »vernsdidj.com |

Used Crimson editor and changed the number to 5.4.1.11 and command 66 in the same line, restarted the service and now I'm actually getting numbers. Might take a day or two to figure it all out. -- Verns didgeridoo info: »vernsdidj.com |
