Re: Lets create an FAQ for hnFAPMon

I have that also and am running it, but it is so far behind real time that it is of little use. So no one knows of a way to make hnfapmon stop including uploads? I can't be the only one who has this problem.

If you need an alternative that allows you to exclude upload packets from usage tracking you could try the Firefox/Greasemonkey script »https://userscripts.org/scripts/show/56458.

It's not as slick as hpfapmon, as the script relies on the HN usages pages, but better than nothing.

If you decide to give it a go, you'll want to change the script - line below from 'true' to 'false'.

var include_upload = true;

The question of whether or not Hughesnet counts uploaded data toward fap seems to still be debated. I can say for certain that it does not! I have started using Mozy online back and have uploaded over 50 gig of data to Mozy. I have let the uploads run continuously for days on end to complete the initial upload and was able to upload well over a gig per day on many occasions. Every day I uploaded more than my 375 meg daily limit.

My question regards hnfapmon. Does anyone know of a way to turn off counting the uploads against the fap limit? At this point hnfapmon is useless to me, and I would really like for it to work.

Me too. It does not seem to pay any attention to DSTstart or DSTend keywords. Still, in general, I'm satisfied with the service. I haven't gotten FAP'd again in a l-o-n-g time. Just knowing that the bucket is getting low---better quit watching TV shows via hulu or youtubes--has been enough, but without the visual tool keeping track...well that was a formula for disaster. I HATE the 24 hour penalty.

Have you re-set the Bucket using the hnFAPMon Service Control Panel?

I have my own problems w/hnFAPMon whereby DST doesn't work. It seems only Start= and End= work, but not DSTStart= and DSTEnd=.

Is everyone else having this problem? For my CDT location I've had to change Start and End to 6 and 11.

hnFAPMon under OS X 10.5.8 and a DW6000

Millham

I forgot to mention that I am connected to the modem not directly using any of the addresses available (192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.254) but via a Linksys WRT54GL router.

I am not sure that is why the data display of FapMon is weird, like minus 600% etc....

Please advise.

Re: Lets create an FAQ for hnFAPMon

millham,

After much paying with Perl unders OS X 10.5.8 and locating all modules necessary, compiling etc. I got both the service and the monitor to work. I think the mode defs for DW6000 are not correct? I edited the default location for the PEP summary pages in 192.168.0.1, which were not the ones specified in the _modem_dw6000.pm, and are "/cgi/execAdvCom.bin?Command=63&PrintMsg=PEP%20Summary"

In any event, under settings as "home" service, I am not sure what the "Full in 186 h" means exactly, and the BK shows minus 680% (that is -680%) Does that sound correct to you? What a minus 600% means in terms of the FAP?

I like to have this running but I am not sure the data I get is meaningful at all?? Please clarify! Thanks!

Solved:
Screen res was the reason for the missing graphic. Forced a custom res. to bring it back.

Vista or something else went a little nuts yesterday and my fapmon got corrupted. uninstalled, reloaded, updated the modem def and fapini. It seems to be working ok but the little graphic thing is missing. Can't seem to bring it up to save my life. Any ideas?

Related:
At the same time Vista (or nvidia) no longer recognizes my LCD widescreen monitor. It loaded a generic CRT and the corresponding resolutions. Of these there is not a correct one available and my resolution is large (too small of numbers).
I am wonder if my graphic which normally sits in the lower right hand corner is actually off screen due to the resolution snafu.

Updated nvidia, no joy. plugged and unplugged the monitor. Vista saw that it came and went but did not recognize it for what it is.

I do not turn off my PC (the one running the service) at nights, since I also download some MBs between 2 and 6 my time (Eastern).

A month ago, I played with the times in fap.ini, then did a small download. I found out that at noon my time, if I put 19-20 in the fap.ini it would ignore the download, it didn't say full in xx minutes, but showed the RX & TX. That proved that fapmon was working. I calculated that zulu time was 6 - 11, just what I already had. I even tried 5 - 12.

CharlieG, do you turn off the computer/server at night? I turn off my laptop at night, downloads happen on my mobile phone. Could it be that hnfapmon needs the main service on with W7 & Vista? W7 & Vista are almost the same animal, from what I understand.

I'm running Vista Home Premium (64-bit), and I just noticed this same behavior. I'd go to bed at 11 pm with 100%, and wake up at 5:30 with -10% or -169% or something. I'd check and I'd see big MB's of downloads happening in the FAP free time. The only thing I can imagine is that hnFAPMon is not ignoring the activity that occurs in NIGHT mode. Actually, I know this must be occurring, since, if I happen to be up at 2 am, and I'm watching a download in progress, I can see the "full in x minutes" incrementing during the FAP fee time the same way it does during a download that is not happening in the FAP-free time.

My computer is the server, and the downloads are actually being received on a different computer in the network (actually an XP box).

Is this actually a known bug? Or do I have something wrong on my system? But I'm not running W7, so . . .

I can't get it to work in W7. Well, let me restate that. hnFapMon reads the fap-free time, so every morning it's at 25% or so because it sees my night time downloads. I need to reset the bucket and start at 100%, which isn't exactly correct, but it's something.

Oddly, the Vista boot is working correctly. I've even copied Vista's files to Windows 7 files with no luck.

The firmware number can be found here:
»192.168.0.1/sys_info/

To find the command number:
Go here:»192.168.0.1/fs/advanced/advanced.html
In the left menu expand PEP.
Now you mouse over (do not click) PEP Summary
The command number now shows in the lower left corner.

Edit the .def file with this values, save it, stop Fapmon and restart it again.

It seems that HnFAPMon needs the latest firmware version in the .def file, and a number after it, as in

'5.6.1.35' => '/cgi/execAdvCom.bin?Command=71'

How do I find out what those numbers are for my HN7000S? I'm not getting any TX or RX info when it runs...

I don't understand why we have to go through this every time hn updates the modem.

"...My PC-OPI program has to do similar things on other command numbers, but I figured out how to find out (programmatically) what the number was when it changed with versions; I shared the info with the hnFAPmon author a couple of years ago, and he said at the time that he would incorporate it but never did.
