Can't I at least try it for one full day before getting hit with telling me I only have 29 days left?
Hi,

Sorry I'm so late stumbling upon your question, even though it wasn't directed to me.

Did you download the trial version from the main KL site?

The v7 you're attempting to trial .. it's KIS or KAV?

And, what version/build is it?

All I can say at this moment is that this was NOT the behavior I experienced during my trial period. Had it been, I also would have been very upset!

I intend, with answers to my questions of you, to inquire from those who'll know if this behavior is "new" or .. what/why?

I bought a new computer and decided to give OneCare try. PCWorld just had a review of the updated OneCare 2.0. I purchased a copy for $14 from BestBuy. It installed without any problems on all three of our computers.

I think for my family's simple needs, this will more than ample for us.

AVG is crap, I installed Avast and when I did the boot-up scan it found a trojan virus that AVG Pro didn't even see..

Just out of curiosity, how long is this poll going to stay open? It's already listed in the sidebar.

Symantec Corporate AV - Low on resources, works well, much better that Norton AV or NIS.
Also using NOD32 on two desktops - Low resource requirements, seems to work well. Had to down grade from V3.0 to 2.5 due to delays with web pages loading, waiting for fix...

AVG Anti-Malware 7.5 registered version. Contains AVG Anti-Virus plus AVG Anti-Spyware. Works great, less filling.

I don't know if this has been brought up before, but I think the next time there is an AV pole, the free AVs, such as Avast, AVG, AntiVir, should be listed separately from their paid versions. AVG and Avast always have such an overwhelming lead in these poles. I just think it would be interesting to see how their paid versions would stack up against the other non-free AVs.

I've been without an A/V for five years now and haven't had a virus hit any of my computers.

I do run a router/NAT, anti-malware, anti-worm, HostMan, Spybot, SpywareGuard, and SpywareBlaster. I've also disabled Share, Messenger, IE, OE, and have used PCPitstop.com, BugOff, HFNetChkPro, and SST to "Lock Down" my pc's running 98, ME, and 2000 Server.

Antivir & DrWeb are primal. I also like K7 (not on your list)...

...but it is 2nd tier, at best, right now. Worthy of support.

VBA32 is a good AV with dreadfully poor website admin. Trying to get a functional trial copy is an exercise in working with needlessly convoluted procedures & unanswered messages. It's sad that such a potentially good av is so poorly managed as to its business aspects.

Never heard of K7 until now. It's not even in any of the Security Updates Threads.
I hope you voted for other. You have posted that you like K7 here in this Thread. So thats a start, to making more users aware of K7.
We mainly post most popular AV's in the Poll, and as other AV's become popular as well, we look at adding them to the Security Updates Thread List, and any Future Polls.

I have used K7 (off & on) for a little over 1 month. You can view a series of screenshots of K7 at...

K7 has amazingly good support. I had an update problem & messaged them. They replied quickly. After 3 exchanges of messages, the problem persisted. Then they telephoned me (India to Hawaii!!). The problem eventually got fixed.

The problem ensued from the fact that my registry cleaner (Ace Utilities) deleted K7's update registry entry. Between me & one other user we tested 3 other registry cleaners (Wise, Regseeker, Regsupreme Pro). They all did the same thing. After I configured my reg cleaner to ignore K7's update entry, the updater has worked just fine.

In case you decide to try K7 -- a 30-day trial is free; a 1-year license is $16.

Again, I must point out that K7 is a 2nd tier antivirus. It passed its only test by VirusBulletin, & is Checkmark approved. However, Blackcat's IT tested its protection at only 69% & BC commented that "K7 apparently is not too hot on spyware/adware and it also seems to be poor in heuristics."

Ergo, I regard K7 as strictly a low-risk surfer's AV for those who want to support a small company.

MORAL: Use KY too often, & your eyesight goes bad -- or maybe you grow hair in the palm of your hand -- (I forget which it was).
