[General] Dynamic IP Address - Wireless Router Problems

My connection gets interrupted arbitrarily and intermittently .. it starts out infrequent and gets more and more frequent. Often the same time of day. Sometimes for just a few minutes, often longer.

The issue appears to be the IP address. The router can't find it since evidently ATT keeps changing it (dynamic).

The people at ATT are incompetent, bumbling idiots. After 20 minutes on an automated phone line answering a plethora of stupid questions (all of which I had to answer in person after getting a live attendant) it took the tech person another half hour to 1) ask the same questions, 2) go through the same idiot quick fixes (did he hear me tell him what my issue was?????), 3) check the line numerous times, with and without the modem on, with and without the filter, etc etc, and 4) finally write a work order for a repairman to come and check the line outside the house. Then, another god only knows how long with the repair people who needed to do the same stupid stuff, ask questions, test the line, etc before they could schedule an appointment, AND, would not guarantee that there were be no costs involved.

ATT DSL sucks. I'm changing carriers soon as I find another. Never did get the issue resolved and bottom line is they don't care one iota.

If anyone has similar issues regarding the IP address changing (using a wireless router) and can give me a tip as to how to 'keep up' with it, please advise. Sorry for the tirade but I feel all better now. Hehe.

Re: [General] Dynamic IP Address - Wireless Router Problems

This is why I set up my computer(s) on my LAN staticly. This kind of helps me when I have problems with AT&T.

All or most broadband companies are all like that. I have had about 5 different ones and all are the same. They think we are so stupid and treat us like crap.

They are told to be robots, remember Mr. Roboto?

They sit in front of a monitor telling you solutions. They actually have no knowledge of how to fix it.

So who is more stupid? Someone that needs a monitor or someone that actually knows something?

I'll prolly offend someone so. But I DON'T CARE.

My 2 cents.

Even if they changed the IP address six times an hour, your equipment should hook right up after the change.

I'd put money on line issues. Now, did you read the top page of the forum this banner:

Thought so. Now, come back with that information, if you would please. I don't work for AT&T, and I am not privy to all that you have already been through.

BTW, it has been my experience that there are any number of fellow customers who have "been there, done that" WRT to trying to get support for troubles, and will happily jump on your problem, and offer solutions; if only you post some useful information so they can toss out their ideas.

Have you tried setting the router's Idle Time Out to zero?
