said by acadiel :Sounds like we're becoming part of the Borg collective! "We are Comcast.. you will be assimilated. Resistance is futile." But you are... but you are...
Seriously, at first, you won't see much of a change because, well, not much has changed. You are currently running through the same network equipment that you using before. The same routes through the same routers.
Eventually, that equipment will be 'assimilated' into the Borg, er... Comcast network. It will be renamed, given IP addresses from the Comcast block, and added to the Comcast network routing.
Once that happens, you will likely see IP addresses in the Comcast range (ie. 76.19...), assigned a Comcast DNS server (if you do that automatically), and, eventually, you'll receive an email telling how to transition your email to your new Comcastic email account. -- New to Forum Life? Quincy, IL customers got the "Your Insight Internet service is scheduled to change to Comcast" email.
Since I have to change my email addr anyway, I am changing to g-mail. I understand g-mail has free POP access.
Does anyone know what I put in my client email software's POP3 box and SMTP box? mail.google.com doesn't work. |

( i like imap.) imap.gmail.com. Either way, you have to activate it in the gmail settings page. Im pretty sure it comes disabled by default.

Since I have to change my email addr anyway, I am changing to gmail. I understand gmail has free POP access.
Hopefully, this gmail address will last me the rest of my life. Even if my isp provider changes due to buy-out or my option. Hopefully dependable gmail will be around as long as I am. And the gmail web interface is available when I travel. |

| reply to INTENS1 Well I can now say that I'm not quite happy with the migration... for now. I'm located in Champaign-Urbana, IL area. I was out of town this weekend so the letter with the Feb. 18 switchover date must of arrived after I left Friday.
Now I'm reading the letter and it said that Comcast will send an email to my Insight inbox with info on transferring the email account to Comcast. So I try to login to my InsightBB acount and dang, no longer working. I'm guessing that they killed the account when it switched over. Now I have no way of knowing how to switch my email to a comcast.net account. Maybe I should of checked earlier but luckily I use Gmail as my main email so I'm not losing much.
Secondly, the lower bandwidth speed. Before the switchover, I consistently get 12,000-14,000kbps down and 900kbps up on various speedtest. Now with Comcast, I'm only getting 4,000-7,000kbps down and 500-700kbps up. That's a good 50-70% degradation and it's nowhere close to the advertised speed. Ironically in the letter, Comcast said that "I will continue to enjoy the 10mbps of speed I currently have with Insight."
I'm sorry if I'm ranting but Comcast isn't winning me over right now. I still have to give them a call to get my email straighten out. Hopefully the speed issue is due to the switchover but I'm not entirely optimistic about that. And knowing that they monitor and heavily throttle down p2p torrent bandwidth isn't exactly reassuring of what I might expect in terms of service compare to Insight. |

| Your comcast.net should use the same username as the @insightbb.com (ie joesmith@insightbb.com may equal joesmith@comcast.net, but can have a number in it due to a lot of joe smiths out there). If it is force21@insightbb.com, try it with comcast.net in other words. Password will be the same that you where using for the @insightbb.com.
I have not gotten the email, or mail out about it, but was able to log into comcast.net with my existing username and password there. |

I gave it a try but it didn't work. My @insightbb.com email was pretty unique to begin with but I still tried quite a bit of combinations with numerals at the end anticipating that here might be others with similar emails. Still no go. I'll just have to give Comcast a call when I get the chance. |

| reply to Greg_Z Quincy, IL has not trasitioned to Comcast yet, or even given us a transition date. However, you don't need to guess your assigned new username, email address or password. Go to Live Chat at the link below. They will ask for your acct# from your new Comcast bill, look it up, and give you the 3 assigned items. They work. I have already used Comcast webmail. I assume you can change the assigned items later.

Quincy, IL was just transitioned today. I was seeing speeds of 30,000/1,500
Is this Powerboost? Will we all have it? What speed will it go back to after powerboost is done? I am in Quincy, IL also. I am happy so far. I was getting near 10,000/1000 from Insight. Just now I got near 10000/1500 speedtest. My old Insight email address still works both send and receive. I have not noticed any TV channel lineup change. |
