Re: New firmware for Westell 327W - version 4.4.3

Can the firmware flash be done from a Wireless station?

I wouldn't try it. If the update gets interupted part way through, you'll end up with a brick.

My Network
It seems to have a problem viewing the network.
I have my main desktop connected and a laptop connected via ethernet. It has been assigned ip 192.168.1.43. The Westell is set to assign via DHCP. No machine is assigned a static IP. There are no wireless stations connected. The 2 "unknown" are the same laptop. The first is the MAC of the ethernet card and the 2nd is the MAC of the wireless card, which is disabled.
It won't even show the station's name.

Release then renew the ip addresses on the unknown devices.

I guess the third MAC address is your Laptop's ethernet card? They were once connected to the modem and not now so it remembers them. What happens if you reboot the modem with the laptop off?

I shut down the laptop and rebooted the modem. It only showed the desktop. I then turned the laptop back on and now it just shows the MAC of the ethernet card. But it still shows and Unknown connection type instead of Ethernet and it shows Static IP instead of DHCP.
It is buggy.

It looks buggy. I think you can rename the unknown to the real netbios name from the link right of it, 'rename device'.

I can rename the device and did but how come it picks up the computer name from the desktop and not the others? And I double and triple checked all my settings on the laptop and the router and I don''t see how it gets a Static IP instead of DHCP.
Oh well. It works even though it hosed the wireless settings. I redid them and all is fine now. Just pisses me off that they release a buggy firmware. I am not the only one having troubles.
And to boot, the instruction page was wrong.
Glad I retired and am no longer associated with that company.

Pathfinder,

I'm having similar issues to those that you had. When you say, "Oh well. It works even though it hosed the wireless settings. I redid them and all is fine now." How did you go about redoing them? I'd like to "redo" mine to get my situation fixed.

My update has also misidentified devices, such as showing StaticIP for two of them, when they are actually DHCP. My one computer connected by Ethernet is identified as "Connection Unknown." In addition, one device is shown as Disabled, when none are disabled. I have a separate post further down (not far) that gives additional details.

Like you, I'm not seeing any problems from all this. I'd just like the information to be displayed accurately.

Freddy

The router is acting as a DNS relay.

WARNING!!!

IF YOUR 327W doesn't have the Verizon decals on it, THIS IS A WARNING NOT to apply the update......I have a 327w with the Westell Decals and decided to try the update on Verizon's website. Now the last update (model numbers matching) I got from Verizon went without any hitch....And the process for this update went without any hiccups...

After the update as I was surfing the net I noticed that I was getting disconnected from the wireless router.....At first I thought that this was because of my crappy transceiver stats (which although low could still hold a connection)....After this happened numerous times, I decided to check the router to see what was going on...This is when I saw that the router was rebooting every 3 minutes or so....After numerous tries to reset (soft and hard-reset)...I have basically decided to give up on the router and just get a new one....So now basically, my 327w is stuck in a reboot loop and I have no physical or software way of resetting the router...Partial (Internet for 3 minutes) BRICK......

Maybe I am the only one with this problem....But just goes to show....As for me, I'm probably just going to try to get my hands on an 6100 and get a real wireless router....Oh well..

Mine doesn't have the Verizon decals on it and I am not seeing this behavior. I did have some issues with wireless settings, but I reset the modem and it fixed it.

I've no Verizon anything on mine. Worked fine for me, and I did it after seeing you had no stickers.

mainly it's eye candy, not sure I really like it.
