| DNS Problems
For the last couple weeks with TDS in the Green Bay area, many customers had what seems like stalling, and some time out resolving addresses types of messages.
Customers have noticed a long delay getting to some sites. And then there were a lot of referrals to an outfit called sedo parking. They are apparently a domain hijacker. One would type in a known good site only to get their phony search results. It started with a few sites and then spread. After a short period of time, I had connection problems and it cleared.
After many phone calls, a customer service rep found some internal company correspondence about their DNS machines falling victim to a DOS attack.
I couldn't find any info on their webpage about his of course. The thing to do until it's cleared up is specify different DNS servers in your computers network setup. |

| There service is so sorry. We don't even have a office to go talk to people here in St.Marys, Ga. they closed it so we have to call Madison to talk pure STUPID and I don't live two miles from central office. There service for about a month is running as slow as some 56K dial ups. Even if you can check speed from there site is higher than if you go to PCPitstop or DSLReports direct and run you see difference. We now have Comcast in town now they better get things going or I know a lot going to change over even cable can load down if a lot get on in yoour area. It's 8000/384to768 spped for 5.00 more per month without cable TV. They are giving a free trail to see if you like it. Going to call and run one computer on DSL other on Comcast we will see and pass on in Jan 2008. |

| reply to grb54301 Here in tiny Paonia, CO, we have been having this issue for months.. and all the tech can tell me is since TDS is the only solution for us, TDS has no priority for us. Although we pay out the butt for it. I get the highest service they have here.. Incoming: 3424 kbps Outgoing: 576 kbps and pay a TON for it. Tech says too many people using without enough T1 lines. Speed tests keep dropping.. had it down to 565kbps awhile.. now around 1721kbps.. The techs say overhead is the issue.. Overhead my a$#. I should expect at least 2700kbps.. but noooooooooo... -- -- --

Just curious - how much are you paying? Here I am overjoyed to have just signed a contract for $99/month for two years for 3 Mbps down / 512k up; just waiting for the modem to be shipped now. -- Wildblue in Lake Michigan | Color Printing Forum Unhappy with noticeably slower secure sites, higher latency due to 11/17/06 firmware changes |

| reply to grb54301 When I upgraded to OSX Leopard on my Mac I began to experience serious DNS problems as you have described. This was probably a coincidence because my Husband uses s Windows XP PC and experienced the same problems.
The solution was pretty simple. Go to www.opendns.com and follow the instructions. I use a Linksys firewall so I put the Open DNS IP numbers into my firewall. The difference was like night and day. I hope this helps. |
