Their drives are crap anyway. I used to only use WD, then a few years ago, they dropped the warranty down to 1 year or somesuch.. and low and behold I had 2 200 GB drives die while very new.

I use only Seagate now due to the long warranty.
I have the opposite experience, my seagate and maxtor drives have failed, but the WDs and IBM (deathstars) still going strong.

Yes, I'm sure with Hard-drives, it's a "Luck of the draw" type deal and you can find people who swear up and down by a particular brand.

However, for me, the deciding factor is warranty.

If one Manufacturer offers 90 days, and the other 3 years, (or better, 5) well, I'm going with the 3 years. I feel that if the manufacturer is worried enough about the quality of their product to not stand behind it for long then I should be worried as well. Also, I notice some manufacturers will warranty high end drives for a decent period, but then have a short warranty on their "Consumer grade" type drives. To me that suggests: Good quality control for the high end, but low quality/rejects for the "Consumer". Either way, I call it on warranty.
