Does anyone know if someone has ever been charged yet for going over? |

So, no, nobody knows of anyone having been charged ... and to be sure, you'd hear about it long and loud in here when it happens. |

Interesting... just checked the usage page, and it seems to have reverted back to what it was before the recent changes... including the text at the bottom giving info on the max charge and the per gig over limit stuff... and the notification tab...
Silly silly Rogers |

I wasn't even able to log into my Rogers account until today, how can they charge you when you can't even check the bandwidth usage for 2/3 of your billing month? |

Can't think of anything else besides MP3,movies and appz. But won't take 2TB/m. However a cap of 100gb is nothing. 500GB is reasonable. |

3 edits | reply to TelecomZombie I haven't heard of any over charges yet but being that we're in the new month of January I'm sure some "insider" will post with absolute certainty that charges will be coming in February! Maybe the threat alone has helped Rogers.
One thing they have to do is fix their schizophrenic usage page. It has to be reliable if they expect their customers to be responsible for usage. At various times, including this last month, I've had over a weeks history of usage missing and at the bottom it's history notification states: "for days which are missing from your history then no usage was recorded." Checking back a few days later will show that the revisionist have gone back in my history and inserted the missing usage and the notice regarding history will also be altered to state: "The usage details listed on this page are not final until the end of your usage period." This garbage has been going on for months. I've even had different "history notifications" in the same day!
I can't police myself even if I wanted to because not even Rogers can help me!!! I don't want to be the rep who gets my call. |

| reply to MDoadkgn OMG...my question is ; DO YOU HAVE ENOUGH GARD DISK SPACE TO SAVE THAT?(GRIN)
i think he meant 200 lol; i mean my comp IS PERMANENTLLY hooked up to dll/upload feeds but so far the maximum i ever reached was 500gb and something, less then 600 anyway.I REPEAT; PERMANENTLLY HOOKED . in my area the most i have seen dll was about 600kb/sec, so yes i am throatlle..but i can live with that, as long as i am not charged extra, moment wich i will switch ips, and NEVER look back at rogers offers; but so far they playing a chicken game i notice. |

| reply to TelecomZombie Well, if the rumours are try and it's a 25$ flat fee if you go over, I don't think I'll be switching. I'd rather this than 1.25$ per gig.
Considering I've placed myself in a catch-22 regarding the new HiDef disc format (I refuse to adopt either and waste money on a potentially losing format) and I refuse to watch lowdef content on my 55" LCD, so I've resorted to building an HTPC along with a RAID server to slap all my media on.
Space is cheap now, and I figure, the money I would spend on BD/HDDVD discs can go towards paying rogers a few extra bucks.
Sure, there are other ISPs, but in my 7 years with Rogers (the internet side anyway), I guess I've been one of the lucky ones because I have never, ever had a problem with their service. I consistently (anytime of the day) get 850-900+KB/s and it would be tough to beat that on another ISP. That and I just hate PPPoE and the overhead it brings.
Yes, I've long sold my soul to the devil that is Rogers (cable, wireless, internet) and if it's a flat fee of 25$, I'll continue to do so. |

| Where does it indicate we'll be charged for overages?
There's nothing yet on anything about overages other than the fact that we know it's coming (as it has for the last couple years!)
If I were to guess, I'd say that they are having lots of fun getting the "charging system" right. Thinking back a bit, I believe that they were trying to measure our bandwidth before throttling was introduced (vis before the pcube service engines were introduced) which means they were using stuff in the CMTS to measure bandwidth and report it on Rogers.com Experience has shown that the tool is pretty bad at getting the counts right.
Now the pcube service engines are also capable of measuring traffic (and very accurately so I gather from the info on them). Maybe Rogers is switching to them to do the measuring? But from what we see, the pcubes aren't everywhere yet and I'd also lay odds that it's taking longer than expected to automate all this stuff. Most software projects go overtime I have seen precious few that delivered on time in over 30 years in the industry.
Again, it's all speculation at this stage. |
