Given how much of a cluster-fuck Bell Atlantic was prior to buying out NYNEX and then merging with Genuity to form Verizon it would have been hard to notice a difference after the merger.
MCI/Worldcom was it's own special kind of disaster, as well. They bought company after company and failed to bother to integrate any of the pieces-parts into a real whole. Then Verizon comes along and says, "hey, lets buy this confederation of a company and try to sort the mess out". So, you have one rolling disaster buying another.
You were used to interfacing with one particular piece of one rolling disaster. Verizon changed the piece you interfaced with. What didn't really change was the overall "rolling disaster" nature of the giant mess of a company. -- The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt. -- Bertrand Russell |

When NYNEX merged with GTE they chose Verizon as the new corporate name. -- Vote for liberty, fiscal responsibility and to uphold the constitutionally limited government as originally intended by our founding fathers. |

NYNEX was a non-entity unable to "chose Verizon". NYNEX had been purchased by Bell Atlantic a year or so prior to Verizon coming into existence. I was still working for Bell Atlantic's "Internet Solutions" division when Bell Atlantic completed the NYNEX acquisition. -- The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt. -- Bertrand Russell |
