HRD - Ham Radio Deluxe

Anyone using this software? I've gotten so accustomed to using it that I have to stop and think if I power up my gear without starting HRD first.

If you're not familiar, HRD (free download: »hrd.ham-radio.ch/) is suite of applications that all work together and offer multiple advantages. The main HRD app interfaces with your radio via CIV interface and, at least with the newer Icoms, provides PTT. It also instantly displays, in large digits, the selected frequency, the band, and tons of other info. Further, it allows mouse-click selection of filters, gain settings (RF and Mic) and a bunch of others. Contacts can be easily added to the built-in logbook, and in fact that IS my logbook. When I operate on PSK31, which is via the associated Digital Master 780 application, those contacts are automatically added to my logbook as well. There are other apps to explore as mentioned above.

Just kinda wondering how many of you use this software suite. Free is always good, especially when it does all this!

I have played with it. I must say it is a very well made piece of software. I don't use it regularly though, maybe if I finally order a Signalink box I'll make more use of it.

KC, I have it loaded for use with my IC-706MKII-G, simply as a GUI transceiver headend, but I have not really explored the other logging features it supports yet.

The logging feature seams really neat, but I have not messed around with it...

Here are a couple of screenshots or HRD and Digital Master running side by side (they're large images).

Interestingly, I fired up both apps and the radio to take these screenshots, and there was a gentleman sending a CQ from Russia. (RA3MD)
So I gave it a shot, and worked him without problem via PSK31. Also worked Brazil, Finland, Scotland and a few others via PSK31.

In the large version (click to enlarge) you can see the DX Cluster option in the bottom of the HRD screen ... the program allows you to have any of several options appear in that space, selected from the buttons on the left.

The Digital Master screen shows the radio window and the clock at the top of the screen, and the "waterfall" at the bottom, which is a scrolling display of what's happening on the selected frequency. The yellow box with the "M" coincides to the main window above, and it is over the trace of the station that is being copied/worked, in this case RA3MD in Russia. There are two other traces present, and the program allows you to open multiple windows and copy all of these if desired. You can just click in the trace, or drag the marker there, and it starts translating right away if readable. While receiving the other guy, you just double-click on his Call, QTH, name etc. and they get added to the log and to your macros, so you just click the button to auto-text some of your replies.

The radio had a narrow filter applied during this, and that's not required. Without it, you would see traces all across the bottom of the screen.

Really, these are pretty cool programs.

I need to find the Kenwood IC-10 chipset for my TS-440 and a way to hook it up.
