With Hughesnet, charging such outrageous prices for their equipment,)ie: tv service or internet,) IF someone can get & use hughes satellite, then why not choose & use DTV or dish, which would be a .,lot cheaper? -- Some absorb information & learn, For some.information only goes in one ear & out the other. |

| reply to whocares Do you people even understand that a 20Mb/s transponder costs a satellite company over a million dollars? There are limited number of transponders per satellite.
Say HNS provides you an unlimited bucket at 1Mb/s throughput. If twenty users decided to download a DVD they would eat up an entire transponder. That would cost $100,000 per user. Obviously there is no way they can allow this.
What exactly would you like them to do? Bandwidth on a satellite is a very finite resource.
Satellite companies are not a charity.. |

| reply to SBS but theres a difference in selling your product at a fair price & TRYING to RIP people off,or what people are willing to pay, maybe thats the reason Hughes is always advertising, they can't get enough customers to pay their out- ragious prices. -- Some absorb information & learn, For some.information only goes in one ear & out the other. |

removed Crisis Management Squad Premium,VIP join:2002-02-08 Houston, TX clubs: | Their satellite Internet pricing is actually quite competitive. It's not the same as DSL, so you can't expect satellite Internet (often the final broadband option for users) to be priced like your DSL... |

| reply to whocares I lived in Bucharest, Romania and had a 16/16mb line for about $30 or so per month. Fiber to each "block" is the norm. Metro speeds over ODC file sharing within the same ISP were about 100Mbs. Once in the country side, cable and some local providers also wire the city with Cat5. There is nearly a country wide provider of EVDO called Zapp mobile with 2mb speeds. They are still pretty much a third world country and manage pretty well. Here, the US is huge with many people just outside of town that have nothing other than satellite. I think the caps are insane, but I see how running a business on that scale requiring the millions of subscribers to share the same satellite. There would be no growth without growing pains. Raising the kind of capital to lauch a new bird isn't easy.... |

I & others WOULD expect it to be more in line with "others' like dish & DTV though, not highly overpriced and with the worst consumer ratings -- Some absorb information & learn, For some.information only goes in one ear & out the other. |
