[Vista] Blue screen at load when USB hubs in connected

For some reason which I have not yet identified, when a USB hub or card reader is connected to any of my USB ports, I will get the blue screen shortly after loading the desktop... I have identified the cause as unplugging them solves the problem. After I loaded Vista and I'm all booted up, I plug them back and they work... but everytime I need to reboot I have to unplug them to avoid the blue screen.

Is this a popular issue?

What were the error codes on the Blue Screen?

Also, have you applied the following update?

»support.microsoft.com/kb/941600

The update contains fixes for various USB related problems and may help in your situation.

Blue Screens are windows fault plain and simple.

Anyway what is the make of the USB hub or card reader.

Really? So bad drivers that cause blue screens are "Windows fault plain and simple?"

Sorry for not posting earlier...

It will bluescreen if any sort of Hub are connected. My hub is a d-link, my card readers are sandisk and the other generic... there is no particularly error on the blue screen... it's quite weird!

I also installed the patch and it did me no good...

TigerLord,

Try deleting the infcache.1 file, as described in the following link:

This sometimes works, and a lot of people have had success with it in situations such as you have. Let us know whether this does anything. Just something else to try.

Also, can you upload a few of the minidump files in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder.

Looking at the minidump files from the crashes may reveal if a third party driver is involved in the crashes.

Minidump.zip 539,150 bytes
I can't seem to open them so if anyone can give it a shot and tell me what might be wrong, that'd be nice !

Thanks!

Two of the minidump files reference the snapman.sys which appears to be an Acronis driver.

Do you have Acronis software now installed and, if so, what is installed and what version?
