Have you looked around for a Wireless provider? Seems like NY state would have that.
Onelasvegas has a couple of listings for cambridge, ny. I know in my area the stuff listed on there is usually out of date, but it is a place to start.

Good luck.

| Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, I've checked with every local wireless Internet provider I know of in this area which was listed on the link and their coverage doesn't extend out to where I live. The nearest one, Hudson Valley Wireless, only provides coverage for the village and any road that goes out up north. I'm about 2-3 miles out of their coverage range right now.
What about wireless Internet through cell phones? I've heard that outside of large metropolitan areas, the bandwidth of cell phones used for Internet connections is comparable to speeds through ISDN connections. |

Alltel is great for that. a $25 adder to your phone gets you unlimited "tethering". If you have 1x (digital), then it is 144k. If you have EVDO, supposedly it is up in the 2M range, I think. Regardless, you have fairly high latency. Signal is quite important with EVDO for speeds as well. I am looking into an amp to get decent enough signal for some speeds at my house. Time........need more time.............. |

| Three questions:
1. Is it possible to use Alltel Web services to browse any Web site and download any type of file like Sprint (which I have no coverage for in my area)? If the company's terms of Internet use are similar to Verizon, then I might have some issues with using it.
2. I can't seem to find a map of coverage for Alltel's Internet coverage with cell phones on their site. Know of a site that may have that information?
3. I can't seem to find a nearby Alltel store in my area within their site's store database. Would calling them be a good bet if I can get the phone mailed to me? |
