Verizon Billing in Maryland

My contract ended several months ago, and ever since then I've been battling with Verizon to get a new contract in place (now completed) but the price has mysteriously risen by 40% as compared to the last two contracts that were in place.

So now instead of the $76 or so a month, it's now $107 a month for the ISDN line. I've been trying to get a straight answer now on why it's suddenly jumped in price and/or get it corrected to no avail. (Just getting a new contract was a fiasco to begin with.)

What is the going rate for an unlimited ISDN line in Maryland with Verizon for everyone else - especially if you've renewed it recently?

Thanks!

I'm a fellow Carroll County resident. My residential ISDN BRI costs $39.06 month total. I've had the line for over 10 years and never had to "renew". I got the line before dsl or even cable was available in my area. Now I use it only for the voice channels. I don't use any data. It's my only line in the house (no pots). I kept it only because it gave me two voice channels (and telephone numbers) and was cheap compared to buying (2) POTS lines.

I had a technician out to the house last week for a repair issue, and he knows of only a few people left in the county on ISDN. He said in this part of the county it's just me and the ATM machine in the k-mart. Funny that I found another ISDN BRI user in the county here.

Sadly, I'm getting ready to cancel the line and switch back to POTS so I can bundle Verizon's triple-play. Verizon says that once I cancel, BRI ISDN is gone forever. They will not do any new orders in Maryland.

So BRI ISDN is grandfathered and nobody can order it ever again in MD?

At least for residential ISDN BRI, that is correct. I don't know about commercial. When I called to disconnect, the Residential ISDN customer service rep had me acknowedge twice that I understand that the disconnect is irreversable, and new residential ISDN service cannot be ordered.
