Another nail in the coffin. Will this state ever recover? How much more bad news can we take? Things look bad for the foreseeable future due to lack of leadership at the top.
Raising taxes during a (one state) recession, how stupid is that? Can you tell I'm frustrated? I know several people who have moved out of state and more who are planning to do so. The only things keeping me here now are my mother and my job. If I lose both of those I'm outta here for a warmer climate with more jobs and a future. I'll probably take a huge loss on my house though. If I had to sell now I would probably lose about $15 to $20 grand over what I paid for it. -- We don't care. We don't have to. | Times are tough here in Michigan...we all have to cut back to make ends meet..wish i could go to my employer and say...I need to increase my pay so i can pay my bills!... Instead of cutting government waste..we get to pay more in taxes...oh thats right..they say its only a temporary income tax hike..it will come back down in a couple years....ok.... |

If I remember correctly, when the Mi. income tax was implemented in 64?, that was supposed to be temporary as well. Temporary means permanent in Mi. lingo. -- I'm an Einstoner and crunch for BBR Team Starfire Einstein @ Home! Join Us! VoicePulse 07/29/04 |

| reply to Jim Gurd I can certainly empathize. I had friends who immediately left Michigan when they graduated college and I thought they were nuts. But after my series of short lived jobs and subsequent layoffs, and even longer bouts of unemployment, even die-hards like me had to leave.
I recently moved from Michigan to Arizona and ain't looking back.
Leaving my friends and family behind wasn't simple. But I won't miss the layoffs, god-awful economy, crummy weather, incompetent government...
I'm making more here than I ever did back home. I only wish I had left Michigan earlier (and I wonder how much farther along my career would be if I had done as my friends did). I am sure things will get better, but I do not have the time to wait.
I will come back to visit and get my fill of Tim Horton's...but short of that, my own home has nothing for me. And I'm quite sad to say that. -- "When they call the roll in the Senate, the Senators do not know whether to answer 'Present' or 'Not guilty.'" -- Theodore Roosevelt |

| True, but their Midwestern presence has grown considerably. I only hope they get expanding out in this direction now.
Best of luck to you people in Michigan. Will the last one out turn out the lights? -- "When they call the roll in the Senate, the Senators do not know whether to answer 'Present' or 'Not guilty.'" -- Theodore Roosevelt |
