| This has to be one of the best kept secrets at AT&T ever. I couldn't find any recent A&T press release touting this service and apparently ESPN360 has totally revised and recently re-launched it this summer. You would think AT&T would at least advertise this to their subscribers.
I stumbled on to the fact that AT&T has paid a usage fee for its subscribers for ESPN360 by accident a week ago and am happy as a clam with it. Heck this is the only AT&T-SBCGlobal-Yahoo service I use besides DSL transport. |

| reply to meskinct I've had some occasional "misfires" when trying to access ESPN360. It claims, "Sorry, your internet service provider does not carry ESPN360.com." I think this may be a situation where my Basic line is trying to connect instead of the Elite line. So AT&T may have not paid for ESPN360 for the Basic speed plans just like they don't offer free wireless for the speeds slower than Pro. |

| reply to meskinct This is a disgusting business model. I am never going to this site except to send hate mail, but everyone on Verizon is paying for it. ESPN needs to learn how to take money from actual customers, rather than by colluding with near-monopolies. I really hate them.
In the bad old days of classic analog cable, this might have made some sense, but on the internet, it's inexcusable. |

| They are both to blame. It seems clear that ESPN is the source of this wretchedness. Without Verizon playing ESPN's game, ESPN would be forced to go find willing customers like everyone else on the internet. I say mean things about ESPN, but I call Verizon to complain. Internet is not cable TV . . . I don't need anyone to decide where to spend my money for me. |

| . . . Yeah, I don't use any roads or need national defense, just like I don't watch ESPN. Its exactly the same . .
We could argue about pork spending, NEA, etc. etc. but it would be off topic, but the point is that people DO argue against some of these things and not others. Few people argue about the need for public roads, just as no voluntary internet subscriber will complain that their money is being spend on internet infrastructure and support staff.
What you obviously don't understand is that it is trivial for the actual entertainment expense to be borne by the actual consumer. Thousands of internet businesses do this. There is no benefit from collectivizing ESPN360, and there is no moral responsibility that should be shared by a given ISP's customer base for providing sports to whoever.
There is a spectrum of well accepted, mostly accepted, arguable and nearly universally undesirable motivations to collectivize funding for something, and ESPN360, an internet entertainment service, is to the far right of that spectrum.
Worst of all is that we shouldn't even be having this discussion - ESPN360 chose this business model in bad faith and kept it as hidden as possible from the unwitting payers. For the most part, only visitors to ESPN360 (the people who benefit from others expenditure) are ever introduced to the sales model, when the "congratulations!" or "Contact your ISP" message is presented. Most of unwitting payers will never know that their rates are higher than they should be. |

| reply to meskinct Has anyone successfully logged in to this? I get the same message even before trying to login: "Sorry, your internet service provider does not carry ESPN360.com."
But when I check the provider list and choose AT&T/Yahoo, it says it's available to me. If I try to login it kicks me to att.net where you have to login with your att.net address with no option for SNET.NET users or any other ATT customers for that matter. |
