anon : there are several different types of antennas. the ones that the car wash is talking about are the older, solid, metal ones. like on the older buicks, oldsmobiles, crown victorias, etc. they werent made flexible enough to go thru a wash. but all antennas now a days will do fine. i have a 89, 93, 94, and a 2002 ranger and take all of them thru. i have never had a problem with it. so hope that helps

GdotMikeL : The base of that antenna is probably a cover which is snapped on. You can pry it off to get to the screws that hold the antenna to the fender of the truck. But, don't do that- it's not made to be removed temporarily. You shouldn't have any trouble going through a car wash. My daughter's Explorer and my wife's Camaro (with similar antennas) have never been hurt.
