Re: [Help] 2005 Ford Ranger Question

there are several different types of antennas. the ones that the car wash is talking about are the older, solid, metal ones. like on the older buicks, oldsmobiles, crown victorias, etc. they werent made flexible enough to go thru a wash. but all antennas now a days will do fine. i have a 89, 93, 94, and a 2002 ranger and take all of them thru. i have never had a problem with it. so hope that helps

Just run it through the auto car was it will be fine. The sign is just for there protection if something does happen to it. If it is not strong enough to go through an auto wash then you might as well junk the vehicle it is bolted to.

With all the time it's taken you to try and figure out how to remove the antenna, and then remove the antenna - you could have washed the whole truck allready!

You can always replace the antenna with a flexible FM only one.

Well the automated car washing place had a sign that stated to remove the antenna before using their service.

Take it to a hand-car-washing place

To think you need to remove the antenna everytime you want to wash it is kinda crazy....

Well, if it helps, I have a 2001 Ranger that has been through at least a zillion automated car washes. Both touchless and the kind with the long strips of cloth. My antenna never got hurt. Neither did my windshield.

Before you bought your truck it was probably through several car washes.

So it sounds like I can't go the automated car wash ? I e-mailed the dealer about this, As I don't have the time to manually wash my truck.

No way it will damage the windshield. The antenna itself probably will be damaged.

On vehicles I have worked on, the hex normally unscrews from the base.

If the threads are seized, then it may break.

Thanks for the feedback. My concern is that the antenna would damage the windshield during the automated car wash process.

The base of that antenna is probably a cover which is snapped on. You can pry it off to get to the screws that hold the antenna to the fender of the truck. But, don't do that- it's not made to be removed temporarily. You shouldn't have any trouble going through a car wash. My daughter's Explorer and my wife's Camaro (with similar antennas) have never been hurt.

I'd like to take my 2005 Ford Ranger to a automated car wash. The problem is there doesn't seem to be a way to remove the antenna from the truck. I tried wrench it off. But it wouldn't budge. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
