a request for DSLX mgmt: faster newsgroup download speed?

I would like to put in a request to see if DSLX can somehow cut a deal with Giganews on the behalf of DSLX customers so we get a discount on a faster download package from Gigannews? sure the 65kb x 2 is free, but....can we get the option to go faster for a minimal fee?!

Thanks for the suggestion. I assume when you meant SuperNews though, as that is the provider that we use for our Newsgroup service.

I think it is a great idea. I will work with our CTO to see what can be done to implement something like this.

If it is possible I assume you wouldn't mind doing a BETA for us.

Thanks!

I wouldn't mind being part of this if it gets done. I currently pay for a separate NNTP provider because 32kX2 doesnt cut it for me either. I would really like to get the service directly from DSLX if I could. Supernews is a pretty good company from what I have seen.

Yah I was using supernews but couldn't stand the wait so went to an outside news provider that lets me download at full speed (I'm on 6000/768 whee!).

But free is free, even better if it's faster.

I'll happily sign up for the beta too.

Didn't mean to put the cart before the horse. I discussed this with our CTO on Tuesday. He is looking into how we can accomplish this is the easiest manner for our end users. When we have confirmed everything and are ready for an official BETA I will let everyone know.

Thanks

Thank you! Keep us posted.

Now I swear DSLX is the only ISP I know that have their mgmt monitor a board with such diligency that when a user puts in a request on the Friday of the Labor Day wknd at 4 something PM and have the mgmt reply 5 hours later.. that he'll look into it with the CTO. Regardless of what will happen, I thinks it's safe to say we all is appreciating the effort.

I brought up this idea a LOOONG time ago (username was FordBronco).

Unfortunately there wasn't an official reply back then.
But i would be interested in this also. The beta too.

It's a good idea, but how about working on bumping up your "included" Newsgroup speeds? Even 128x2 would be a big improvement. Road Runner includes full speed Newshosting service. I don't expect you to match that, but 128kbps is a tad slow in this day and age.

I would also like to see faster download speeds. I have also spent extra on a Giganews account, for a limited time, to get the faster download speeds. Newsgroup access has always been one of my primary factors for staying with DSLX. Faster speeds would be the icing on the cake.

I second that, I also pay a separate company for newsgroup access. I think a total connection of 512kbit/sec would be the minimum I'd need to drop the 3rd party.

Our current service is two 256 connections or a total of 512.

After 30 days another bump is not uncalled for.

We have been working on this and the best way to go about it in the systems. We have also been working with our news servers provider. I don't have an update quite yet but will update you when I do.

Thanks
