I'd like some Feed-Back on this, the UpStream part in particular...

Looks like a great modem. Is it? I'm using the 2Wire 2700HG-B and it's ok, but wonder if there's an advantage to switching. Looks like you can do more with this modem.

In my experience, a good 2Wire modem beats every other modem out there. Some let you tweak but I find the 2Wire modems because of the chips they use tend to give you the best performance out of the box so no adjustments are required.

Customability is a nice asset but yes, at 63 dB attn. the 2Wire is a champion.

Thanks.

Because of my ATT, I'm looking to optimize my crappy connection. It appears I've got the best router for the situation.
Thanks all.

5056-800 Kbps Tweaks (2007-Aug-29)
Hi,

Anyway, here's the tweaked configuration which i'm
testing right now.  Factory defaults can't compete
with it, FirmWares are too dumb to search for such
a set of minute trade-offs, i suppose.  As you can
see, i didn't sacrifice any bandwidth this time...

Resolution per bin being 4 bits less i'm expecting
to have a sturdier signal, only a noise curve will
tell me if it's less susceptible to the cross-talk
noise which seems to have increased significantly,
lately.  I'll need to optimize my RCO, eventually.

I'm hoping for some quieter noise curve than this:

Nope!  No flat curves for me so far, i'm afraid...

Moving Bell's main line away from power lines just
didn't seem to do much and i think i've found why:

The white part is PVC, no magnet will stick to it.

Plan-B was to shield Bell's main line, i've got no
noise curves for that just yet but something tells
me this isn't the end of my misery...  Stay tuned!

Hi Piotr_1,

Some people are very happy with their SS4200 while
others prefer a 2Wire, for me it's a GNet and i've
shown why i appreciate it exactly but you and i we
don't seem to speak the same language if all there
is to discuss is related to devices that "suck"...

I'm curious about all brands and models as long as
i can obtain more than qualitative information so,
if you don't mind, you'd please me quite genuinely
if you could find the time to add such a snapshot:

SNR Drops at regular intervals, HiVolt, 2007-Oct-18

The same goes of MLerner even if he was here about
two month ago already.  I don't mind, i'm patient!

As you can see, this thread is related to tweaking
a variety of parameters and, while i test them, it
provides a great opportunity for trouble-shooting.

All i care about is what an SS4200 or else will do
for me should i get my hands on one of those and i
woulnd't mind at all if you could show us what the
SpeedStreams 4200 & 6520 are capable of, honestly!
