Hey guys,
From what people told me, my high ping could be due to my modem, take a look at my tracert;
Tracing route to google.ca [72.14.207.104]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 48 ms 99 ms 100 ms speedtouch.lan [192.168.1.254]
2 * * * Request timed out.
3 225 ms 212 ms 230 ms core1.tor.primus.ca [216.254.131.165]
...
do you think it has to do with my firmware? i have a st516

to be curious about the v8 FirmWare for
your ST516, i might have replied you've
most probably reached a dead end, that
this is for Thomson's TG585 and similar,
but it's not what you're asking.

| Well, i'll appologize myself because i certainly
don't want to sound rude or anything. Maybe
i should have used a more diplomatic style but
i suppose you get the idea. This thread being
about Thomson's FirmWares i'm afraid there's
just nothing left for us to discuss here, since
it ends at FW v7.4.4.7 for ST5x6 owners and
that latest Thomson release is getting old...

Soo, I got two 516's and I am trying to get the RCO for one I upgraded
to Software Release: 7.2.0.8 and DMT won't show the RCO with this version so is there an upgrade that works or do I need to downgrade to a V6 firmware. |

This is a rather long thread to re-read
so here's the news: Thomson started to
make their FirmWare 'DMT'-hostile with
the v6.1 releases, meaning you have no
other choice than to DownGrade to get
the RCO information - unless you simply
ask your ISP to obtain it from Bell's side.
Don't count on future FirmWare versions,
the TG line of products has taken over...
Dream of the SpeedTouch line reaching v8
if you must but i won't bet on it anyway!
Oh, but i forget to mention that it's not
necessarily the end of 3rd-party tools:

I am about to purchase a ST 585. Where can I find firmware updates for it? What version of the firmware seams to be stable?

hey there, i have a speedtouch 516v6 and i cant seem to get it to connect to the internet. i set it as pppoe first, entered in my username and password for my isp through the setup wizard and everything, but still nothing. so i set it to bridged mode and tried connecting through xp but that gave me an error saying "connecting through wan miniport (pppoe) the device returned an error". i also tried setting it to bridged mode then connecting it to my wrt54gs with tomato firmware but that didnt connect either. i am currently running on the latest firmware found on this site:

Your configuration files might be corrupted... You can make sure
they are gone before you invoke the wizard by proceeding as i've
shown above. One of these URLs should launch whatever you've
defined as your default FTP application:
ftp://10.0.0.138/dl/
ftp://speedtouch.lan/dl/
ftp://dsldevice.lan/dl/
ftp://192.168.1.254/dl/
Starting from there, if you still can get the MoDem connected i'd
check the VPI/VCP pairs and use this GUI resource as a 1st test:
Home > Broadband Connection > Internet Services > Connectivity Check
That's pretty much basic. If you can't get any satisfying feedback
from you MoDem/Router at this stage then the TelNet CLI bible is
going to be your next stop, i suppose... |

The 6.1.4.6 UK version was made 'DMT'-hostile but it will still work

If your problem is with the VPI/VCI pair then just edit the setup
files mentioned previously in this thread. If you must insist to try
an older FirmWare then i suppose this post may suit you better:

Hi,
So, I have a speedtouch 546 v6 and I wanted to flash it with the most up to date firmware it's giving me the message that I need the device password and username and people said Administator/ blank password or admin/admin does not work. there is way to many theards going on. Can I be directed to the right firmware with the upgrade tool?
