How can motor cycles be removed from our roads?

If state legislators wanted to help lower insurance rates, then they should come together and introduce Bills to banish motorcycles and scooters from all public roads in this state. If passage of this type of legislation occurs, we would see an automatic drop in insurance rates, a dramatic drop in accident fatalities, and an overall savings in our states budget due to the fact that money would not be wasted on "rider education" and thus freeing up monies for the states school budgeting.

This would have a positive affect on the noise pollution and other public safety issues. It also could lead to lower street crime and reduce the incentives for Biker Gangs to sell drugs and guns to children.

Let us all urge our local and state representatives that we need a positive change for Michigan families, and not to be swayed by outlandish and outspoken opponents.

What??? I must be out of the loop. Is there a rampant influx of biker gangs doing this? If so I haven't seen much on the news about this. People will still get guns and drugs without all the "horrible" bike gangs. You're only fooling yourself if you think that removing bikes from the roads will stop or even lower this.

Let us all urge our local and state representatives that we need a positive change for Michigan families, and not to be swayed by outlandish and outspoken opponents.
No thanks. They have every right to be on the road. My vehicle insurance isn't expensive as it is now. What do you propose next, banning people 60 and older from driving as well? I've been rear-ended 3 times by people 60+ at slower speeds, all their cars had damage but not one single scratch on my truck. Should I start a revolution to remove them?

You're delusional if you think something like this will ever happen.

I propose that we make everything illegal but cars from the big 3. That way we would only be supporting our local companies. Think of the added jobs...

Please provide data to support your bullshit theory.
quote:
A more plausible theory is based on demographic trends. It holds that baby boomers have reached the safest driving age. People between 45 and 64 represented 33% of the drivers on the road but accounted for just 24% of accidents in 2004, according to the National Safety Council.

"Old drivers are better than younger drivers," Mr. Liddy said at the June presentation. "Until you are about 72 or 75, you get better, not worse."
found here

We should also ban anyone under the age of 45 from driving and over the age of 64 and insurance rates would also be driven down. The fact does remain that due to the popularity of motorcycles more riders will affect the margin to a greater degree however no greater than before when reviewing ratios. Most of the riders however who are being killed on motorcycles are going against the trend that was seen above...most are older who just started to ride and are not seasoned riders. The average age of the motorcyclist killed is 36 years old up from 27 since 1980 due to more older riders on the road. A motorcycle is not something just anyone should climb onto and ride. You should be in shape, have many years riding experience, and/or have taken an MSF course to help with your skills. If your position were actually true we should honestly regulate all driving and drinking laws along with extremely harsh penalties for things like speeding, running a stop sign or any of the traffic violations that exist. I dare say, without back up of course, that more people are killed or injured by all of those infractions, some of which you may have participated in, than by those riding motorcycles. I personally log about 11-12 thousand miles a year on a bike and have seen more car accidents than accidents involving motorcycles...and by the way the actual number of people riding motorcycles are law abiding not in gangs selling drugs...you are joking about that I'm sure or have been living in a closet for most of your life. Get out once in a while and you'll see a real world that does not parallel your thoughts.

It is quite common for those that disagree with an opinion to start on the defensive and progress towards being offensive.

However I must inform that I am not swayed in my quest to remove motorcycles from our states roads. And I urge all concerned citizens to contact Michigan's Senator Roger Kahn to show support for a bills(SB0291 and SB0292)introduced to investigate Biker Gangs and their illegal drug trafficing and gun sales to minors.

We should at the very least contact our local police about the the excessive noise problem produced by the majority of motorcycles and the reckless driving of the race replica bike riders.

As I and most of my neighbors and associates see this as acts of terrorism. Selling Methanphetemine and illegal drugs to minors, reckless driving and noise pollution, and the general attitude that they are better than the rest of society constitutes a definate lack of respect for the values of our country.

I am not swayed either. I will continue to support their choice of motor vehicle. They have every right to drive one if they wish.

We have far more pressing issues going on in this state than motorcycles driving around.

My Lord ... If you want to do something to effect change, try crusading for a cause that is REALISTIC !!! Thinking you have a snowballs chance in hell of getting something like this even started, let alone in to a legislative committee is really living and thinking outside the realm of rationality.

If you want to see your insurance rates lower, put your efforts behind the push to abolish no-fault laws. My wife works insurance down here in Monroe. A year or so ago, one of her clients moved from here down just across the state line into Toledo. A couple months after he moved, he brought Carol in a copy of his insurance policy/bill from his Toledo agent. He stayed with the same insurance company, kept the same coverages, the only thing different was his state of residence, separated by about 15 miles. His premium south of the border of this grand state is 7 dollars more than exactly half of what it is up here.

DH resident, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having read it. May God have mercy on your soul.

Yes, but he has to live in Toledo. Some things are worth the extra bucks.

wow... as a Responder for a local Michigan Rescue Squad... I can tell you most accidents are by people being stupid in their cars. 90% of the time motorcyclists are the victims in crashes because someone was not paying attention.

Hi,

You sound like a Looper! What would you do next when you find out that this grand Idea did not work? Would you ban cars?

Get rid of NoFault Insurance and People with attitudes like yours.
