What is PowerBoost?
Actual speeds vary and are not guaranteed. PowerBoost only available with Comcast’s 6.0/8.0 speed plans and above. PowerBoost provides bursts of download speed above the customer’s provisioned download speed for the first 10 MB of a file. It then reverts to your provisioned speed for the remainder of the download.

Comcast Houston has no clue what Powerboost is ...
Apparently it should be available in League City, TX (where I live), but I do not have it yet. I called tech support and they sent a technician today. Guess what: HE HAD NO IDEA WHAT P-BOOST EVEN IS! All he could do is spend 30 min in his truck talking to his uspervisor, after which he gave me the phone number for level 3 internet support, and left the house! Unbelievable ...
Does anyone know if Powerboost is REALLY available in League City (Houston), TX? |

My friend and I chatted with Comcast Billing and finally was able to persuade the guy to push a new config file to the modem. My friend was immediately able to use PowerBoost and was quite happy.
So chat/call Comcast Billing (don't waste your time with incompetent tech support for Houston). Insist they reprovision your modem or push a new config file (some techs don't know how to push, so they reprovision). It will work as long as your modem is supported (some ancient TWC modems aren't supported).
Also, make sure you have been transitioned to Comcast. You can check this by checking your WAN ip/hostname. If it has a .comcast.net at the end then its Comcast, if its .houston.rr.com then you're still on RR and won't see PowerBoost. |

Got it in May for 4-5 weeks then disappeared until a Comcast tech put the correct modem in their database (they had my last modem which I hadn't used for 3 years). Had it for 1 week but today my uploads are back to sub-384Kbps.
This is so wacky. Gotta be something at the Comcast end because my hardware hasn't changed. Also been losing my signal today off and on for the last 3 hours. That's why I called a week ago but they couldn't see anything at their end. |

And by the way...... Is this speed result normal for someone who is supposed to have a 6000/384 connection?? The download speed has been fairly consistant for the last 3 months......During a real load transfer (300 - 600 MB packages) my download speed reads 1.5 - 2 MBs. Not the expected 600 - 700 KBs (that is the avg. speed for a 6 Meg connection, right?) but it actually SAYS 1.5 to 2 Mb Sec in the download window. |

I think it may also have something to do with cloud formations over dadkins ' house and what you had for breakfast, but don't quote me on that.

He is a prime example of getting insane PB speeds both up and down.
If something is going on in Comcast land speed wise, he likely knows about it. |

I'm in Houma, Louisiana.

My daughter lives in the Rustic Oaks subdivision and I checked her speed and it was running over 17000Kbps\2500Kbps just this last week.
Here in Freeport I am still at 6000\350Kbps. I am going to take my old PCX2200 Toshiba modem and trade it in on a newer one. |
