Finally, this suburb of Atlanta has the new speed upgrade to 12/2. Upload in orange, download in blue. The download pictured was a 364 MB Linux distro. -- Leave It On! |

| I've received "The Letter" saying that my Business Class account had been "automatically" been upgraded from 6/1 to 12/2, and all I had to do was reboot my modem to get the new speeds.
The letter arrived Thursday, but since then I haven't seen downloads or uploads moving faster than the current 6/1.
Did Comcast just jump the gun on sending out the notifications, or could this be due to my cable modem? It's a SMC 8014 gateway (I also have a static IP, which may or may not be a factor).
Anyone have an idea? |

I'm in Norcross, GA (not too far from Atlanta)
I've called Comcast several times but still cannot get this issue resolved. When I download off usenet I get a max of 8mbps with 10 or 20 concurrent connections. Also tried usenet and a download from another server and both seem to total around 8mbps still.
It seems like I'm still at 8Mbps but Comcast reps told me that I have "Blast" service on my account and that it was available in my area. I do remember for about a 1-2 week period I got 16Mbps speeds but then later it went back down to 8Mbps. |

| reply to sortofageek I received an email last December 31 stating that speeds in my area were doubled, and there was no action needed by me. Yet, my bandwidth consistently measured 6Mbps down and 1Mbps up on Speedtest.net. This was after power resetting, and config resetting/rebooting ad-infinitum.
I figured they just jumped the gun and that the speed increase would eventually get to me. After 10 months, though, you start to wonder. When Project Cavalry finally got to my neighborhood, I figured it was time to call Comcast.
They tested my line and cable modem and said both were fine and up to spec. They reset my modem from their end, resent the config, etc. Speedtest.net still reported 6Mbps down/1Mbps up.
I finally decided to go down to Comcast to pick up a rental modem to see if it made any difference, as a precursor to buying a new modem. They gave me another SB5100, with exactly the same firmware, hardware version, etc. as the one I had. However, this rental modem tests out at 30Mbps down and 8Mbps up on Speedtest.net. Also, the config file name shows up in the Log on this modem, whereas it never showed up in the log on my old modem.
Does anyone have an explanation why a virtually identical modem obtained from Comcast would work, while the one I owned and used for years would not work with Powerboost? I am probably lucky that the SB5100 they gave me worked, because if it didn't, the next step was a truck roll, probably at my expense. However, I am now paying $5 a month for cable modem rent, whereas the one I owned is now junk.
Software Version: SB5100-2.3.8.0-GA-00-NOSH Hardware Version: 3 MIB Version: II GUI Version: 1.0 VxWorks Version: 5.4

| reply to SeattleAl I am in Atlanta and received the email about the newer speeds and that all I needed to do was reset my modem and I would have the 12/2 tier. When I do this Im still stuck with 4mbps. I own my own modem which is a linksys cm100. My father also lives in Atlanta and received the same email and he also owns his own modem which is the same motorola that comcast was renting out for a long time and he is also still only getting 4 down. Now I visited my wifes Aunt and she has the same modem as my dad but rents it from comcast and she is getting 12 down.
Is comcast trying to force its subscribers to rent a modem from them? Every time I call comcast they tell me to rent a modem and that its my modem which I think is a lie due to it being docsis 2.0 and fully compatible with the speed tier. |

| reply to sortofageek I live in Ann Arbor, MI and last week got the email from Comcast says that "Soon Comcast will Double Your Speeds" - which is nice (finally!).
Does anyone know about how long between this email and Comcast making the faster speeds available?
Blast has been available here for about a year and a half, so I think the equipment is all set. |

I live in Arvada, Co and got a notice syaing it doubled but I never got over 8M/bps at speedtest.net like everyone else uses on here so I called comcast and they say it should be double and speedtest.net is unreliable for test thought they have no advice on where to get a accurate test and there was nothing they could do. So at least for Comcast still does not deliver what they say you should be getting. |
