| Porting # from SR to Packet8
Hi. I ordered packet8 earlier this week to replace sunrocket, and am hooked and it's working. I requested a port of my old home phone number that I brought to SR (not issued by SR), and the status on packet8 is still 'open'.
My question is, now that I have disputed the cc charge for SR (Chase already gave me a prorated refund), and have unplugged the SR adapter, calling my old number just fails. Will this be a problem with porting? As of last night, my old number would still ring on SR, so if I need it plugged in and ringable until the port goes through, I can. I just want to make sure I'm not doing anything that would prevent the port from going through. Can anyone help?
Thanks. |

| Go into the SR portal (it's been up and down) and forward your number(s) to your new Packet8 number or at least to a cell phone. You should have done that long ago. The gizmo doesn't need to stay up.
The gizmo being offline should not affect your LNP request in the slightest. I suppose the cc challenge conceivably could, but I really doubt it.

Will the two companies be fighting over my phone number? Will TB hold my number "hostage" if I don't sign up with them? If I don't, what will happen after the supposed "drop dead" date of Monday? Will having my SR number forwarded to my P8 number keep it ringing through after that? |

| I signed up for P8 on Wednesday, got my adapter Friday, as was up and running on a temporary number in minutes. I went in to SR website and forwarded my calls on my old home number and it seems to work pretty well.
As far as porting, I think that 7-10 days should be a reasonable expectation. I doubt that Teleblend entering the picture has any effect on the process. As to how long the forwarding will continue to work....well who knows. |

| Thanks. I had the same experience. 2-day Fedex for my adapter. Same setup as SR. If my number ports and I get the same level of service as I did from SR I'll be thrilled _ as long as they at least let me know when this ship hits the iceberg !! |

@rr.com | You guys that are porting from SR to Packet8, did you have to fax anything to P8? I didn't see anything about needing when signing up so though maybe they were given some access to verify I am with SR. |

@verizon.net | reply to SR_Refugee142703 Yes, for porting, had to fax them an invoice (the only one that SR didn't delete!) and my customer profile (because the invoice didn't have the SR phone number) to prove that it was my phone number and that it was paid up. |

| reply to Christie Could people please report their porting experience from SR to P8?
I put in my 3 port requests and faxed in a copy of my SR online statement on July 19. To date there has been no updates whatsoever to my port request. I've noticed in other threads that with other providers they are getting port status updates, but again with P8 I have no confirmation that anyone has even looked at my port requests.
Do others on P8 have similar experiences?
EDIT: I just noticed on the bottom of my port request form states "If you do not see any change to the status of your online order after 6 weeks, please contact Customer Support." 6 weeks is conveniently 2 weeks past their trial period, so if they can't complete the port for some reason, I'm stuck with 3 out-of-area lines for a year unless I take the ETF hit -- Check out my website: www.renowirelessinfo.com |

Do others on P8 have similar experiences? I signed up for Packet8 service on 7/18/2007 in the evening at their online website that was linked to the SunRocket emails from Sherwood.
I requested that my SR number be ported to Packet8 at the time of signup. I saw nowhere that I needed to fax any proof to Packet8 that I actually owned the number that I wanted to port from SR.
The Packet8 adapter was delivered on 7/20/2007 via FEDEX overnight service and I was running on Packet8's temporary number within 10 minutes.
I opened a customer service problem case via Packet8's customer service portal on 7/22/2007 asking when the port of my SR number would be completed as Packet8 advertised quick porting of SR numbers.
The port of my SR number to Packet8 was completed on 7/24/2007 at which point I unplugged my SR Gizmo..
All in all..I was pretty pleased with Packet8's service in all this.. |

| reply to Brian Grif_n I forgot to mention that I also had no indication throughout the porting process that Packet8 had even looked at my port request for my SR number either.
When I signed up for Packet8 service at the link provided in the Sherwood email..I had the opportunity to request that my SR number be ported to Packet8..which I did request.
Once my Packet8 account was active online..I could click on the LNP status on Packet8's customer service portal and I could see a status that said port requested or some such wording.
The only time that status changed on Packet8's customer service portal was after the port was completed..at which point the LNP status changed to port enabled..

| reply to Christie Brian Griff, give packet8 a call. They will help you. As far as the 6 weeks for porting, and how it's "Conveniently" 2 weeks after the 30 day free trial, don't read anything into it. Almost all voip providers state approximately UP TO 6 weeks to port a number. Packet8 is using their resources to make this happen faster.
Also, as far as them making it AFTER your 30 day trial, that is NOT the norm. Most people don't switch over to a new voip provider and port their number the same day. Those who do, are very ignorant about voip and is asking for trouble. Whenever you want to change providers, you need to sign up with them and try them out for the trial period. Once you are convinced that they are the right provider for you, THEN YOU PORT YOUR NUMBER.
The same could and should have been done with the SunRocket refugees. You should have signed with packet8; tried them for at least a week; then ported your number. But, in the SR confusion keeping your number may have been something you didn't want to risk by waiting. This whole SR experience is a unique situation.
Anyway, call packet8 and let them find out about the porting delay. later... Mike.... |

| Thanks for the replies. Looks like my case is not the norm. Will give them a call and give an update here.
I wonder if they have different delays wit different carriers (Level3, GlobalCrossing, etc.)? My numbers are with Pac-West. -- Check out my website: www.renowirelessinfo.com |

| Yes, Packet8 has direct connections with both Level3 and GC. Those ports are happening fast. Other carriers are going through the "normal" VoIP porting process which takes a bit longer. Call to be sure that the LNP process is going, but rest assured that it will occur, eventually. |

| reply to Christie I got around to calling P8 today - 2 weeks after LNP request. The CS rep said he would email the LNP department and escalate my case. He said it was unusual for it to take this long. -- Check out my website: www.renowirelessinfo.com |

| reply to Christie Ported successfully to Packet8. Requested LNP on 7/26 and it was completed on 8/1. Equipment arrived 3 days after I signed up; activation was OK except they did not initially assign a phone number to my account. Had to call tech service, they fixed that on the spot. So far, so good. Sound quality is excellent, even on international calls. |
