Comcast channel lineup hard to navigate?

In my area we just did one on April 10th. It's alot better organized in my opinion. If I recall correctly we have to inform our customer base 60 to 90 days before it happens, and its usually done along with the Bill.

Now my question to you is, what does your lineup look like? Here is ours here in Jacksonville FL, 32277, Ignore the word No. XD

I think its a lot easier for providers like Verizon to provide a more nationalized lineup than Comcast or cable companies in general. Comcast is a lot more localized and has to abide by certain things set forth in franchise agreements and whatnot and I think largely adds channels to areas based on demographics and perceived cost/value etc. to a specific area. Not to mention that past acquisitions/contracts could require certain channel and/or tier placement.

Now I'm no expert but I think that the aforementioned things mentioned above, are just some of the things that hinder the ability to have a "national" Comcast channel lineup.

I guess it depends on your system. Comcast just reorganized our lineup of channels under 100 this spring, so that sports, news, etc are all "grouped" together. The old one was like yours, no real order whatsoever. Verizon just started up not that long ago, so of course they would start with a lineup that is nice and organzied.

Here's ours. Notice how dumb it is that VH1, MTV, BET, CMT are not grouped together. Also the sports and news channels. Why not put CNN next to Fox News, MSNBC, CNBC, Headline News, etc... Also channels 68 to 72 are ANALOG SCRAMBLED. Yeah look what they are too... not like they are HBO or anything like that. I wish they would get rid of that waste and make them digital only. That would give us a few extra MHz for HD channels, and SD channels I want such as Fuse, Fuel, Boomerang, etc..

we have two black channels here:

government access channel 14: used once a month for the county commission meeting then black the other so many hours a month (go figure i tried to get programming on it but the county prosecutor went so far as to place a phone call to my house to tell me if i didn't stop harassing to comissioners about programming I would find myself in prision for 50 years so I stopped what a f'ed up county i live in!!!!!!).

then we have a leased access channel that also has nothing on it, it is channel 99: oh well I won't even try to get antyhing on it because that would mean i would add another 50 years in the state pen to my sentence.

It's just messed up. Why would they put up channels with nothing on them??? No one seems to know and I can't get answers without getting threatened with prison time.

I think those are "must carry" channels that the FCC mandates the cable company carry. We have a few, one with an old school text bulletin board, some kind of community TV channel, the local high school's TV channel, one that plays powerpoint slideshows and one that is some kind of "Bucks county TV" They are all digitally simucasted too and in the clear, I don't even have them memorized in my TV's lineup.

yes but do something with them don't leave them blank. What a waste of space. If you aren't going to do anything give them up for other channels.

If local govt. access station only shows meeting once per month then it is likely that they have that meeting only once per month. If the city doesn't want to spend money to broadcast local shows or content then show up to a city/town meeting and put a proposal on the table, not that difficult to do.

The other channel that is blank is likely an active local access channel in another city.

i don't even know if they even show the commission meetings anymore because I lost track of when they are to try to dvr them to see if they even televise them.

It seems very unlikely that a municipal government that feels entitled to "their channel" is going to willingly give it up. This is really another reflection of the corruption associated with cable franchising being left in the hands of local municipalities instead of state agencies.
