[XP Home] Memory question

I just purchased 2MG of memory and loaded them. When I check my computer it says the physical memory is 3MG, but when I check the memory slots it says I have 4 at 1024
Is there a problem with one of the memory banks or what? or something else?

Slot 'DIMM_1' has 1024 MB (serial number 05066220)
Slot 'DIMM_3' has 1024 MB (serial number 0207A115)
Slot 'DIMM_2' has 1024 MB (serial number 05066026)
Slot 'DIMM_4' has 1024 MB (serial number 0307A023)e memory

Thank you,
Skywalker

I found these which might shed some light.

I have the same question myself as I have a new PC that came with 2gb of ram and the manufacturer says that it can have a max of 4gb by motherboard specs but XP will only see 3gb of it. Confusing so I am trying to find the definitive answer of how much I can have with XP HE. So far I haven't found the answer.

Looks like 2gb is OK with no settings needed. 3gb will work fine if I enable some switch setting or something. 4gb will give me more than 3gb I won't get the full 4gb so it seems like a waste.

Thanks for the replies, it looks like until I upgrade to Vista I cannot use my full resources.
