Spent 25 minutes on hold and talked to three different reps before I found someone who could answer my question, but they were certain that Houston will not get Blast. We will be getting a whopping increase in download speed from 6Meg to 8Meg. Oh joy.
The upload rate will stay at the same useless 384K.
I just spent two days uploading picture from one softball tournament to my smugmug account. I need more upload bandwidth!!!!! |

FYI - My best friend works for Comcast... Trust me, they do not talk about or "confirm" Blast!.... They have been deploying it to areas on the East Coast [Boston where I am] in towns with FiOS competition with Verizon or other parts of the country with AT&T Fiber. If you do not have a competitor with at least a 16m/1m product, forget it... That does not mean you will not get "Powerboost" however...
No competition - bare nuts and bolts, that seems to be Comcast's MO, not matter the size of the city |

What good is Powerboost? I'm trying to upload many Gigabytes of pictures to smugmug on a frequent, repetitive basis. A few seconds or even a few minutes of higher speed isn't gonna help. I'm talking about days of continuous, full bandwidth usage.
I can get a little more speed from ATT. They can give me 768K up on DSL for around $40 a month. I suppose that's an improvement, but not much. Sure wish I was in Verizon's area. I'd get FIOS in a heartbeat. |
