Every month (30days ... you can set your watch to it), my sound drivers go ape and all I get is static. I have the drill down now so I can delete the drivers, the device, and then reinstall the sound drivers. Then all is well for another 30 days. Sounds to me like something is trying to "Auto-update" the drivers at 30-day intervals, and ends up borking the driver installation every time...
