Hi guys,
Anyone using OpenWRT/X-WRT with VoIP? How's its QoS?
Thanks. -- Michael |

However, if you are looking for a feature rich firmware with QoS, I've had good luck with the "open source" DD-WRT firmware in my router. In fact my experience has been that DD-WRT's QoS is really pretty nice and pretty solid, once you get it properly configured.
BTW: If my memory serves correctly, DD-WRT was specifically designed to support some OpenWRT extensions (i.e. the various "open source" firmwares did indeed (legally) copy source code from each other, and DD-WRT was no exception). So you might want to see if the features you like from "OpenWRT" are also present in DD-WRT. |

However, DD-WRT seems a little bloated now and lacks the flexibility that OpenWRT has. -- Michael |

1 edit | reply to Cyberian75 I used dd-wrt on my Linksys WRT54g and it worked fine. Actually it was more stable than the factory firmware. I was also able to set a switch on it that rebooted the router every night. However, I replaced this router since it wasn't very efficeint keeping up with my high broadband data rates. I have 15/2 from Cox, and the WRT54g router could never deliver more than 13Mbps down. I bought a ZyXEL P-300W and have great throughput on my router now. |

I am not sure what you meant by bloated; however, your preference on OpenWRT seems to be the right one because packages can be compiled and easily added/removed as you like. -- Mazi (UK Non-Geo Phone: +44-703-194-2574) |
