them in his hooks for buying another one off the lot, a manual trans grey

which looks just as good. I've done grey.

I got another $115 off the 4-year warranty extension, $2,034 with tax. That
is way less than half the MSRP. That's $43/month. I paid $100/month for my
warranty extension on the 2001 because I bought it late, 4 years after
purchase of the car. The salesman bought me a set of wheel locks, $80 + tax.
That comes out of his pocket, not the dealership's. I will give him an
excellent rating on all categories when Ford sends me their satisfaction
survey. I usually do, because anything less than excellent puts their jobs
in jeopardy. When I purchased my '89, I requested the wide racing stripes on
the hood be deleted. It was an option to have them deleted. They weren't.
Luckily for me the car was nearly the same shade of grey as the stripes,
so they weren't that noticeable. I did not give that salesman an excellent,
because he did not offer to have the stripes removed and the hood repainted.
He could have but he didn't. I never saw that salesman at the dealership
again.

Funny thing though. After doing all the paperwork with the business manager
and then driving the car home, I realized he forgot to register the car with
the Province of Ontario! In other words I have no valid registration. So
tomorrow back I go to the dealership. Meanwhile, I will carry the bill
of sale in the very unlikely event I get pulled over.

This thing has real low-end grunt. The first gear is quite low (high
numerically) and very little throttle is needed to pull away rapidly. I
barely exceeded the speed limit (60 kph) on the way home because I was
rather nervous. It takes a while to get to know a vehicle's characteristics
and to memorize the location of every control so you don't have to look
where you are putting your fingers. The car has a satellite Sirius radio
system which I will never use, but one thing it reads out is the
direction I am going, i.e., NE. The car has an external thermometer
which is nice, but I don't think it has a real- time fuel consumption
readout. That would have been worthwhile, whereas telling me what direction
I'm going and what the temperature is, is useless. I always know the
direction I am going and I always know the temperature. Useless gimmicks
that add to the cost. The Sirius system is 'free' for six months but I won't
be susbscribing so the direction readout will probably end then.

There is no mechanical engine noise, at least up to the speed I hit driving
home, 63 kph. It is all combustion/exhaust noise which is what I want. It is
a different sound from my '01 because there are two exhaust valves. It is
unmistakingly a grunty V8 sound but because there are two exhaust valves the
sound is more rapidly grunty. It sounds like it is idling more rapidly, but
it idles at 550 RPM, exactly the same as my '01. Speaking of sound, at red
lights I hear the sound of new cars idling and it is amazing how bad they
sound. Metallic vibrations, plastic rattling, glass rattling, mechanical
engine noise and
combustion noise which sounds like a sowing machine. Even very expensive
Japanese and German cars. When my car is idling and you listen to it from
the outside, it makes no noise other than combustion/exhaust. This is not a
fluke. The big three have long known how to tune a car's sound. The Italians
know, BMW knows, Porsche knows it for water-cooled engines, but they can't
make their air-cooled engines sound nice. My neighbor's Porsche air-cooled
turbo sounds not much different from an old VW bug. Too much machanical
noise. His wife's water-cooled V8 Porsche has a very good raspy sound. It
is not the grunty sound of an American V8 but it is Porsche's version of it
and it is unique.

Of the six Mustangs I have owned, this is the first one to have a 'Z' as the
second character in the VIN. All others have been 'F'. A little googling
confirmed what I thought. 'Z' refers to Mustangs built specifically for the
Canadian market. This was probably a result of Ford Canada wanting a way to
distinguish between the two country's sales origin for warranty
purposes. This makes it very difficult for a Canadian to buy a Mustang in
the USA and expect Ford Canada to honor the warranty.

All six of my mustangs were V8 automatics, 1986 (grey), '89 (blue), '94 (red-- the closest to candy apple I have ever seen), '97 (green), '01 (black) and the ordered '10, black. The '94 was the lowest in grunt at only 220 hp, the '01 is 260 and the '10 is 315.

I have also owned a new '84 Audi Coupe GT (a lemon, blew three heads is 18 months). Also a '93 VW Corrado, totaled by an unsafe pass by a lunatic.

I have received exactly one ticket in my life, something like an illegal U turn in Banff. I actually got the ticket for pulling into someone's driveway and backing out. It's a local bylaw and they expect tourists to know about it. Haven't spent a dime there since then, 1984.

When I was a teenager I took a sixth month course in auto mechanics which essentiall consisted of tearing down a Chevy blue flame 6 cyl. and putting it back together again with all cleaned or refurbished parts.

Over my teens and twenties I bought many old English and American cars and would typically spend about $50-$75 on repairs and drive them for a few months until they died.

With the advent of computerized ignition and fuel delivery I stopped doing any maintenance myself.

I'm 63, licensed for 45 years.

I actually do have some exciting (for me) news. Last July 21 I special ordered a 2010 Mustang GT, black on black, with 5 speed auto. There was one B on B with auto in Canada, but it had a $2200 glass roof. The last thing I want is the sun beating down on me.

I expect to take delivery early October.

This is my sixth Mustang GT since 1986. I'l save the details for later.

1988 Mercury Sable. (Had 88k on it in 2001 and ran pretty well. Water pump died a few times and I messed up the transmission in it the day after I got my license.)
1994 Ford Escort (this was my first car, was a nice little 5 speed I picked up from the school resource officer I knew, I learned to drive a manual transmission cause of this car and loved it).
2000 Ford Mustang (Sold the Escort and got a loan for this car since I was starting college and all. Unfortunately it got totaled in 03/2004. Maybe I'll have one again one day)
1999 Toyota Corolla (My current car, had it since 2005ish. Its been very reliable and lately I've been putting some more work into it changing some stuff out, cleaning it up a bit.)

I'm not really that car savvy, just changed my own oil without help today for the first time. I'm enjoying learning more about them and what all the different things do and such.

Don't drive the Civic enough, considering selling it. Really good MPG car, but it's time for a timing belt, it leaks a little oil and it's tough to get in and out of for me. (4 door, small doors, big guy)

The Chevy Astro Van is near the end of it's life with me as well, has a persistent electrical problem which means it destroys batteries and is not dependable anymore. Been a good van but after being in a minor accident and then getting sideswiped while parked on the street it's just not worth spending money on anymore.

The 2003 Neon is my current daily driver and is doing well, Super strong A/C that can even handle this 110 degree crap (ugh). Hasn't cost me hardly any money in terms of repairs mechanically, but it's currently got a "Small Leak in Evap. system" which keeps engine light on (And it's not the gas cap apparently, I've tried 3 different ones).

Next vehicle I buy will probably be a used Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic, although I sure would like to buy a VW Jetta TDI but I just don't think I can trust the reliability like I could a Toyota or Honda :D

I currently drive a 2003 Volkswagen GTI 1.8T. It's an awesome car! I love it! Drives nice and is incredibly fun! My VW is exactly what I wanted in a car. This car is pretty much stock, except for the sound system I did on the car. We changed the headunit and speakers around (Pioneer) also added a subwoofer.

Other cars I will drive is my mother's 2001 Toyota Corolla. This car is a true POS. It has problems like no other car.
I will also drive my father's 1993 Dodge Dakota. His truck is alright but starting to have problems due to age and mileage.

-1989 Dodge Daytona Shelby in show condition, bought from a REAL collector. This thing had a fully built 2.5L Turbo, and ran a 12.2 sec quarter mile. I had a blast with it for a year or so, but along came the baby and that car was just not safe.
-2004 Subaru Forester XT (present). This vehicle is the best yet. 2.5L DOHC turbo, 18g turbo swap, Pioneer Avic D3 navigation, very stealthy stereo install...the mod list for this car is very long. It's the grocery getter than runs a 12.2 second quarter...and it's an Auto.
-1995 Volvo 850. (present) This is our "other car" that I often use as my daily driver. It has 115k and has been very well maintained. Had one owner before me, an older lady. This car is our "old faithful." Hasn't failed us yet.

All of my cars are fairly high milage (range from 210K to 66K)- I do NOT buy new cars. I am doing more with the upkeep now than before. I have 2 good friends who work on their cars and other cars. They are backyard mechanics (one was a service manager and certified though) and the other person has as much knowledge if not more than the certified friend. they have all sorts of experience with synthetic oils in new and used cars but their main loves are their M3's...

All of my cars are foreign except for the Chrysler T&C - which was my one mistake.

My fav pastime is going to BMW CCA drivers schools in my '89 Civic Hatchback at professional road courses. Hopefully this year I can sell our Accord wagon and get a mid-90's 325i...

I was born in Brooklyn, NY and moved out to Long Island in 1977 (well my parents moved, and at 2, I moved with them.) I lived in Newark, Delaware from 1993 to 1999, most of which was for school. In 1999, I moved back home for a bit, and I still live on Long Island, although not with my parents. :)

My first car was graciously "loaned" to me for my senior year in high school. In 1992-93 I was a senior in high school and I was driving a 1981 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. A two door monster, this car was big enough to transport me and the friends to/from school, and also a ton of fun in the winter months with the RWD. To this day, I'm glad I learned how to drive on that car.

In 1996, I purchased my Uncle's 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, which I used through 2000, before I sold it to a friend of mine. FWIW, this car is still working today--my friend sold it to one of his friends who put a 3rd auto tranny in it. It's got over 200,000 miles on the original engine.

In Sept of 2000, I purchased a new 2001 VW Jetta GLX. Great fun to drive, nice pickup, but a royal PITA to own. Malfunction after malfunction; O2 sensors, engine temp sensors, window actuator, ABS malfunction, engine coil pack, Mass-Air Flow sensors, and the final kicker was a transmission failure at 39,000 miles. Sold that car, basically took a loss, but it was ok because it needed to go.

In late 2003, I leased a Nissan Maxima SE which I just returned on Thursday. I was "allowed" 39,000 miles on my 39-month lease, and I returned it with 38834. Couldn't get too much closer than that. Besides a bum right front strut at 10,000 miles and a faulty wire for the power driver seat at 20,000 miles, this car was completely trouble-free, hassle-free, and a blast to drive.

On Thursday, I also picked up my new 2007 Nissan Maxima SE, which I'll have for a few years. Big improvement over the 04 actually, especially with the suspension, interior quality, and I'll tell you --- I love that CVT.

As for general automotive knowledge, I have little. I've liked cars all my life, loved shows on TV about cars (Knight Rider & Dukes of Hazzard to name a few), loved listening to people talk about cars, and can always be entertained by people who know a lot about cars tell me how to fix my own.

So, while I doubt I can answer to many questions here right now, I hope to be able to read a lot, learn a lot, and may be in the future, I'll be smart enough from y'all to answer someone's questions in the future. :)

I know very little about cars. Just a few weeks ago, I changed Windshield Wipers for the first time (Don't Laugh) and had a flat which took me hours to change.

My first car was a 2004 Chevy Aveo which I bought new. It was a POS Car and only kept it for about a year and traded it in for a 2005 Ford Focus. I loved the focus but it was a basic sadan and didn't have any features. It was totaled in a bad car accident in July 2006. I decided I was never going to go new again so I went out and bought my Escape and haven't looked back.

I just miss the gas milage of my Focus, but all thing's considered... it really isn't too bad on gas. I have new tires so I should be good to go for a while.

I'll be turning 40 in a few weeks (where DOES the time go?). I am married and have two kids. Nate will be 5 the day before I turn 40, and Sandy just turned 1 two weeks ago.

My life right now is mostly the kids and work. I work in the water/wastewater field and am a part-time (reserve) police officer.

My love of cars started when I was about 10. I can't really say what it was exactly, as no one else in my family ever had any real interest, but I think I just loved hanging out with the older "kids" and listening to the sound of the muscle car V-8's and hearing the war stories. I have every single issue of Car and Driver magazine since January, 1980.

Most of my cars were POS's in the early days that I managed to push beyond their limits. Got myself in trouble doing it too, but nothing serious.

Currently I drive a 2006 Hyundai Sonata GLS V6. I find myself getting into trouble all over again with this car. It's the fastest thing I have ever owned, and I like to push it when the kids aren't in the car. I'll be flipping over a big odometer reading this July--let's just say I was born in the 50's so you can figure out which one.

Ever since I was a kid looking at my Uncle's Road&Track's I've been addicted to funny looking ferrin cars. My uncle actually had a Fiat 500 that he used to drive like a bat out of hell around Southern California. My Dad had a '62 Austin Healey Sprite that I thought was the coolest thing in the world. For years I had an automotive wish list that might make some cringe--Citroen SM, Renault R5, Renault Fuego, early Civics--while my real life cars (ones that my family gave me) were more mundane--a mid sixties Dodge Van and a '71 Chevy Vega Panel.

When I finally got out of college, I bought a motorcycle--an '82 Yamaha SR500--instead of a car. Later, I replaced my dilapidated Vega with a VW Jetta 4 door which I convinced myself was a poor man's beemer. ;) I replaced that with a Miata 10 years later, had a brief dalliance with a beat up 1985 BMW 535i which was fun to drive but hell on gas and finally got the TT a couple of years ago. I don't do a lot of car shopping. ;)

My wife thinks I'm nuts, but my kids think I'm cool, so that's what really counts, right?

She now has almost 80k on her. I'm 40 years old and my passion is my horses.

I have an oil leaking clutch slipping '95 3000GT with almost 200K miles, that fits one kid if I have no other passenger.

My wife has a '98 Altima with almost 200K miles and it's running fine.

We need to buy a minivan to haul the kids around in.

To deal with traffic I normally ride one of my motorcycles (05 CBR600F4i, 06 CBR1000RR) but if I must (rotting 4 hours/day in traffic ain't fun) I drive my Comptech supercharged 2004 Acura TL 5AT.

My car experience is limited to my early days (1990ish) street racing (and often breaking) my much missed '89 5.0L Mustang notchback and the blower install on my TL which quickly reminded me why I sold my 5-0.
