Here are a few screenshots of record uptimes. I'm sure they all have been beaten; however, it's nice to brag!

| I used to run a small Linux list server. It was running off an old Dell Pentium II. The thing ran 485 days before I had to shut it down because of an extended power outage. After that, it ran for another 280 days before the place closed and the server got scrapped.
Sorry, no screen shot. I had one, but I can't find it anymore. |

| reply to d0nni3q This was what an old nameserver that handled a few thousand domains and a few thousand local clients was at when I turned it off:
spork@nameserver[~]$ uptime 6:12PM up 1927 days, 5:37, 1 user, load averages: 0.05, 0.01, 0.00 spork@nameserver[~]$
It's generally not wise to run something that long, but this thing was firewalled to the gills. As long as BIND was updated, it was safe. |

| reply to d0nni3q I've had a couple of Netware 3.1x servers that ran for 300-600 days. It was a few years ago; can't remember exactly how many. They were shut down for hard drive upgrades (ran out of space)
I did hear a report of a Netware server in the Phillipines that was running for 15 years! |

| Phat, I had a small linux box that did 444 days before i had to turn it off to move it too another office.
That box is now 6.5 years as a linux server, and once i took it out of the office, i moved it too my home network where it continues to do its duty. |

| reply to d0nni3q I don't do it anymore but I used to leave PC on all the time... Don't do it anymore because it is somewhat pointless unless it is a server.
My record PC uptime was 80~ days with XP.... and Modem and Router uptime record of about 200 days, which was really good for no UPS/APC and the unreliable power around here.

| reply to d0nni3q I had an openBSD spam filtering box that would have been up for almost 2.5 years (That's ~900 days) if not for two power outages and my Windows-admin coworkers panicking one time and resetting (yes, they hit the reset button) it because they *thought* it was the problem.
And, yes, in those 900 days there never was a remote vulnerability.
EDIT: My IIS6 servers at work are routinely up for 130+ days at a time. If you disable/block the vulnerable stuff like Windows file sharing, IIS6 servers can stay be up for ages. |
