Re: Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall 4.3.635

In my opinion Kerio 4.x never left beta, and Kerio's developers ignored many bug reports when they tried to force out a version to charge money for to begin with. They didn't fix some major bug reported in the beta until 4.1x, but still many remained. I'm not sure what Sunbelt can really do here anymore, and anyone who has had to try to fix somebody else's code know how much of a royal pain in the ass that is to even find the source of the problem, nevermind fixing it.

Sometimes I wonder how Tiny 2.x would have faired if the group that called themselves Kerio didn't take it over, but either way it would have been bought out/taken over by another company it seems.

Just received a reply from tech suppost saying the devs are looking into this problem-work around is to upgrade instead of installing fresh-

Also told them their import tool doesn't work

we'll see what they can do

like you said BZ don't know when or if they can fix these problems

I installed over the top of .268 after first stopping SKPF. No problems, all seems to be OK & I can export config. Installed to default location.

If you have a previous version installed and then update to current version everything is ok.

The problems arise when you install current version without having a previous version installed first.

The install problems were there in the previous build also

Sunbelt has their hands full

Will this new version install over v4.2.2, or would it be best to get rid of 4.2.2 & install this version fresh?

It would be better if you install over 4.2.2,that way you should avoid the problems that I have been reporting-I would make sure to backup your most current config just incase.

Well I updated exactly as you mentioned and the export size is
zero.

Will try the work around later.

Hi BlitzenZeus,
You're right about bugs and problems with Kerio 4.1.x. And I know that we've had the product for some time now without a release - until now. Taking over a complex product such as this isn't easy, but we're very pleased with what we've accomplished over recent months.

Please, please, please try out the 4.3.635 release! We have fixed a metric ton of crashing issues and stability problems (some really hard bugs) as well as performance improvements. I really believe this is the most stable and reliable version of this product in its history. We are committed to improving the product and we will be announcing our plans for Vista 32/64 support very soon.

Best regards,
Mathew Thomas

Just an encouragement to Mathew (not that he needs it, but... )

In short, lots of 2.1.5 users are (almost) desperately looking for replacement now that 64-bit and Vista are "upon us". And, at least from my experience, it's damn difficult to beat simplicity and power of 2.1.5. Tried many, but always came back to good, old Kerio logic and stability.

It'd be fantastic stuff if 4.3 and beyond series can keep these attributes. If yes, then there will be lots to celebrate, both users and Sunbelt. How do you achieve this? Well, do lots of listening here and employ it.

So, keep up good work! Really glad to see a developer participate.

Cheers,
SGT

I have to echo this. I'm one of those users who keep coming back to 2.15. There are a lot of 2.15 users still out there looking for a simple resource friendly firewall to replace it. The newer versions of Kerio that I've seen ain't it. I do, however, much appreciate the support that Sunbelt is now giving their customers and the fact that you've replied here is way above what the old Kerio folks ever did - which was nothing.

Are there any plans for adding Windows XP x64 support?
