| hams can be quite useful
As a ham myself since I was 11 years old back in October 1991, and as someone who loves technology both radio and internet, I can appreciate how awesome both the radio and the internet can be. In fact, within the not too distant future, I'll be setting up a linked radio system that uses both radio and internet technologies. I'm very much a geek. I've got the fastest speed I can get in my area, Charter cable's 10/1 speeds. If I could get FIOS, I'd have that. That said however, BPL should never interfere with any type of radio communications, be it ham radio operators, or anyone else for that matter. Ham Operators are the most vocal about BPL causing interference, because at least on the HF bands anyway, much of the 2 way communications that occurs is by us hams. I believe options such as cable/DSL/Fiber/wireless should be expanded and improved upon to give internet access, at fast speeds, to anyone that wishes to have it. With all the methods that one can connect to the internet, or any computer network for that matter, BPL just seems like a total waste IMHO! There's 0 reason DSL/cable/wireless/fiber network access can't be provided for those wanting broadband internet. None of these would be interference causing methods, and we'd all be happy. We hams and other radio communications folks would still be able to use our radios, and internet users would have great speeds and reliable internet access. BPL just needs to die! 73 to all, KD6CAE |
