Gee, what a surprise. Another Neocon dissing that which he doesn't understand.
Bob Geldof is a major advocate for the elimination of global poverty. He has dedicated his life to the cause of social justice, much to the dismay of the right wing whacko's, whose motto is best summed up as 'kick em down, and keep em down'.
The BS being foisted upon today's kids is the crap the megacorps try and push down their throats. If it weren't for LIBERAL programs like sesame street, and PBS, today's kids would be force fed a message of pokeman and transformers.
It's time to stand up to the corporate oppressors, and support GOOD works like this channel. Every kid we teach to think critically about the difference they can make in the world, is a kid who provides VALUE to society. Every kid who grows up on force fed, right wing, christian conservative values is another nutjob who probably believes blowing up abortion clinics is a good thing. -- Stick it to the MAN. 1 edit | reply to karlmarx What the neocons don't seem to realize is that worldwide peace, liberty, and equality are more products of socialist structures, as opposed to capitalistic structures. Capitalism, at least in it's modern Western version, is basically a gigantic "pyramid" scheme.
Oh I forgot to tell you to keep being a good little consumer and do your duty of buying disposable plastic lawn toys from wallmart and contribute to the "help China buy US debt" fund. |

Don't you realize how stupid you sound when you say "I wan't to eliminate global poverty." Yea right. You'll have everybody living dirt poor with a few, very rich, very powerful people running the communist government. But you'll say, "Oh look! Nobodies homeless! Communism is a success, just ignore the fact everybody's dirt poor."
And global peace, give me a break. It sounds nice, but it's only a dream.

You should learn the difference between communism, socialism, and stalinism before spouting random mis-information as you just did. All three aforementioned forms of government operate in entirely different ways. |

1 edit | reply to karlmarx Social justice is code for socialism. Where is it working well? Nowhere!
We are already force-fed nonsense. We have the left dictating how many gallons of water our toilets use. Going to Canada (surprisingly where they still make real toilets), buying a real toilet and driving back to the U.S. will land you in club-fed.
We have government owned forests, which the left protests even any sort of management and as a result wildfires burn out of control.
We had the Army Core of Engineers try for over a decade to rebuild and revise the levee system in you know where. Every single time protests from the enviromarxists stopped them. Eventually they gave up.
We have the government telling us how we can and can't use our own land--our own private property (for you socialists--private property is where those evil "rich people" store all of their ill-gotten hoardings). In some areas you can't even drain rain water from your backyard otherwise some enviro-nazi will take you to court (where the activist judges are to force upon us what the whack-jobs can't legislate into law) and stop you from using your property the way you want because it might be the habitat of the "hairy-chested nut scratcher".
I anticipate that in the near future we will be force-fed left-wing, pseudoscience, chickenlittle, dumbshittery in the form of socialized medicine. Government run medicine-like the rest of the so-called "progressive" establishment, will treat us like "resources", devalue life (those of the unborn and elderly--both are burdens on society--so just abort and euthanize!), and spread poverty equally and evenly among everyone.
Take England and their system (which I'm sure that we'll emulate for our system in some form):
You're over 70 and need dialysis--good luck. You're over 70 and you need a vascular bypass to save a limb (as in the part of your leg that's below your knee)--F-You, your leg is amputated below the knee!
And for a real-life example: A physician that I work with told me that his brother, just recently, whom lives in England went to the hospital with weakness on one side.
They told him that he was having a TIA and to go home and take some aspirin. The man is 50 years old! No scans, no blood thinners, no serum lipids...just "go home". Now there's socialism at its finest! To me it says "Piss on you!" So the doctor that I work with called his brother and told him to go to the hospital and not to leave until they treated him. I don't know what happened from there but I'm sure I'll find out.
There's nothing humanizing or liberating about socialism in in its currently practiced form.
Those who hail it as the doorway to a new golden age are doing nothing but standing on their collective heads and calling the world "upside down".
1. We need to "punish" and "stand up" to corporate oppressors. These are the entities which employ people (as I've never had a paycheck signed by a bum in the alley), produce and contribute to the GDP which allows us: 1a. to have the resources and revenue to clean up after ourselves. Since we are a wealthy country, we have the resources to clean up after ourselves. Per dollar, per person we are the cleanest industrial nation on Earth--because we can afford to be! 1b. have resources to take care of people--social security and all the other goodies that people enjoy; from the sick elderly person to the heroin addict whom gets a paycheck every month from Uncle Sam. All of these programs require money. Capitalism = money. Socialism = stagnation and a lousy GDP. 1c. Most of us have retirement accounts and stock in corporations. So we should collectively punish them so then they have bearish earnings and we earn nothing?
2. If right-wing christian conservative values are ruining our nation then I can't wait to see what progressive, morally relativistic, class warfare, capitalism hating, balkanizing, "social justice" does for us. I know: It will spread misery, poverty and collectivism everywhere. It will be the real life bastard hybrid of 1984 and Harrison Bergeron.
Equal opportunity isn't enough-we have to have equal outcome and an economy that emulates that of the EU. I can't wait.
I'm not going to be the first in line to be treated as a number or a resource. That is--if I'm lucky enough not to be aborted as an inconvenience or euthanized because I'm too expensive in my later years.
No thank you! |

I am more of a libertarian. Free markets and free people. People need to take care of themselves and stop whining for the government to babysit them. |

Ok THX-1138. Remember - Let us be thankful we have commerce. Buy more. Buy more now. Buy. And be happy. Economics make it necessary to terminate any operation which exceeds five percent of its primary budget. |

It is sad. Politics has turned into such a game of bullshit game between the left, the right and the libertarians. -- Prove it... |

| reply to Kamaz said by Kamaz :Free markets and free people. That's always funny. That only means that people are free to execute commerce freely. That's says nothing about the rest of their lives.
Additionally, that's just as a utopian a vision of the world as the -isms. Libertarians talk about communists like their nuts for believing in their utopian ideology, but are often blind to the fact that libertarianism is the same type of thing. -- Prove it... |

| reply to Anubis Prime Social justice is just that; "social justice". It's not code for socialism. That's seriously one of the silliest things I've ever heard.
I personally am not going to bother wasting 1 iota more debating this matter. You clearly need to spend a lot more time reading about world history from several totally different sources.
I just had to point-out the silliness of that remark, no hard feelings mate, stiff upper lip hey?! Apologies if I dont respond to your rebuff, but I've much better things to do in-order to put the ole grey-matter to use.
