gtdawg : BFV is just a skin makeover for BF1942 just like BF2142 is a skin makeover for BF2. Both BFV and 2142 are just cheap ways for EA to get more cash flow on existing code.

2142 is boring so far.. I bought it so I guess I will find out if the rest picks up the pace a little... I went right back to BF2... all the classic maps and fun and the new Jahalabd (sp) isn't bad at all if you want an alternative to Karkland (no flying)

Midak : All bugs aside, news is now that it ships with spyware (retail version) which I posted about in the security forum. I am not going to use EAD now but will buy it in store and if I can not find and remove the spyware, I will just return it and call it quits.

LaZ3R : Updating PB to the latest version should in fact fix the problem. Unless you are having a port closed which PB would require to be open, I'm not sure what else you can do to fix it.

Spore Cloud : Just about every weapon or vehicle just seems to be incredibly weak. It seems like im able to unload all my rockets as the "engineer" class I think it was into mechs and tanks and it doesnt seem like I can scratch them. Anti-air guns dont seem to do anything to aircraft or vehicles, although the missiles are decent. All the infantry guns seem to be horribly weak too, I burst fire for maximum accuracy at some guy that doesnt even see me from mid range and I think I may have scratched him with the full clip. Piloting a mech seems awkward and WTH is with tanks not having a secondary gun to shoot infantry with?

From what I can tell it COULD be a good game but the balance on everything just seems horribly out of wack. I do like the attack helos, especially how hovering in place is easier now. I really like titan mode, anything to be different from the usual capture the flag, and launching yourself onto a titan with an npc is fantastic. But with all its flaws combined with a $50 sticker price and built in updatable ads theres no way im getting this. I'll stick with BF2 thank you very much. 2142 shouldve been a mod.

Carbon Unit : this game needs lots of tweaks, most weapons are pretty weak, I can fire at people all day with heavy machinery and it wont even scratch them, the EMP from the commander is a joke, artillery is weak ... seems no one wants to be commander, I basically site around a flag a when someone captures it I just walk over and recapture the flag, in BF2 I would have been smoked every time I hid by a flag

In the browser window, you need to click on the Advanced tab. The Advanced tab shows actual ping times. Quick Play just shows Green, Yellow, and Red for latency.

Overall, I feel the browser window is much better than BF2. Plus there's finally a buddy list. Game itself loads much faster than BF2 after the first time you launch the game. But be prepared to wait a while when you load a map for the first time, especially after changing your video options. It does take quite a while to load. But after that it's pretty quick.

I'm still not decided if I will buy this game. When I first played the demo I was definitely turned off. I think mostly because things were different just enough to make me confused. But after playing a bit more over the weekend I got used to the game and it's "quirks". Right now I'm leaning slightly toward getting the game. Basically, need to play the demo more.

Look at BF 2142 demo, and most people are complaining about the game and the bugs it has. EA should learn their lesson. They should revolutionalize (does this word even exists, lol) a game instead of releasing a crappy game just a year after a game is released.

Let's see how Need for Speed: Carbon turns out.

JIGA : I did not like the overall "feel" of the game. IMHO, it felt and actually looked like a BF1942 mod. I had all settings on max and original BF2 looked and felt better than this game.

I can't stand the aircraft, nothing spectacular there. The weapons just seem like modded BF2 weapons... wheres our lazers! The mech walker is pretty cool, but its weapons loadout sucks. Whats the deal with yellow, red, green ping indicators... just a way not to show us the crappy ping times...

I could go on and on but don't feel like it. It just feels like a crappy BF2 skin mod. IMHO, BF2 is way better than this game.

snipper_cr : Thats what I do too. I just random servers (usually which ever have rotating maps, lowest ping and highiest amoung of players). The most fun I have is when Im in a squad and we are team working. IE the squad leader giving orders and everyone working toget it done. Even if we dont win, those are the best.

Anyways, on to 2142... pretty good graphics over all, first load took FOREVER. The Titan idea is interesting. My big problem is the Titan blowing up in the end looks pretty bad. At least have the thing crashing back to earth or wobling around a bit... The vehicles are cool although the stationary weapons leave something to be desired regarding power.

I have the same issue sometimes. I think it stems from the fact that I usually play alone (just random servers) so something's a bit lost overall when doing that.

Think joining a guild (or atleast convincing more friends to buy BF2) would fix that though.

I had a buddy of mine bring his tower over to my place a couple weeks back... The only bummer then is sometimes it is hard to get on the same team... of course when that is the case I look at his monitor so I know where to bomb him with the F15 :D

Personally... I am not too happy with the game... if you go for high settings it takes forever to load (on a very fast machine) but most of all it doesn't feel like BF2 anymore... it still has the cool features like lots of vehicles, multi-player, weapon choices, ranking etc. etc. but I guess I'll take a chopper war at the Gulf of Oman any day.

I guess I'll try it again when it is completely released... but I am happy with BF2 for now.

Shaders 2.0 required? They list the X850 so i assume it has it? AGP? The list the Audigy 2NX as not being able to support hardware rendering sound. Does the NX mean a variable (like all Audigy 2s dont work?) or does Audigy 2 ZS support hardware?

Bender_2k : Only took an hour or so via BT to get my hands on it so I'm happy with that atleast.

As for the demo itself...my main issues are:

1) Sprint is garbage the way they have it setup, no excuses, just pure garbage.
2) Lag at times can be pretty bad.
3) The server window NEEDS to tell exact ping times. None of this "green/yellow/red" junk they have going on (might work for noobies that know nothing of ping times, but atleast give us the option of see'ing real ping times).
4) Balance is sooo out of wack at times it's not even funny.

Overall it's still a pretty fun mod...err...game :p. Looks just like BF2, but runs overall smoother and loads faster (love how quickly the server browser reacts now).

Not sure if I'll be buying it yet though. I want to see how ET:Quake Wars and UT2007 pan out in comparison.

LaZ3R : I think it's alright. I really like the idea of the titan mode and it can setup for some really cool and enjoyable team battles :p.

Map loading was almost instant.. I'm not quite sure how my computer loaded the map on the first shot in about 10-20 seconds, my mouth dropped :p.

Graphics are nice, sound effects are pretty cool. Hell of a lot of lag though on all servers (hopefully gets fixed).

Hmm, not sure if I'll buy this one though... BF2 did let me down.

Mfn Man : oops,i should read things first. Anywho, ive decided to buy a new card tomorow but i still don't know if i have agp or not. The slot is brown and doesnt look like a pci, but i think my card is a pci card.

In order to install and play the Battlefield 2142 demo, your system must meet or exceed the following minimum system requirements.

RAM: 512 MB
Video Card: 128MB DirectX compliant video card, Pixel shader 2.0 and above. (AGP and PCIe only)

IV. NOTES ON COMPATIBILITY

Battlefield 2142 demo is designed to run on Windows XP compatible graphics and sound cards. Drivers for these devices are provided by the respective card manufacturer and may result in compatibility issues beyond our control.

If you are experiencing any issues, it is always recommended that you obtain and install the latest drivers for your hardware. The majority of hardware vendors have the latest drivers available for download via their websites.

V. KNOWN ISSUES AND TROUBLESHOOTING
====================================

CHANGING DISPLAY MODE
Occasionally on some video cards you may be allowed to set the display mode to one not supported by your computer. This will result in a black screen being shown. To remedy this use the Windows
Explorer to find and delete the directory:

\My Documents\Battlefield 2142 demo\Profiles\

This will reset your game to the default settings. You can now start the game, retrieve or create a new profile, and re-adjust the settings using the Menu as normal.

Players with SoundMAX HD Audio integrated chipsets may experience crackling and popping audio during game play, if you are experiencing this please ensure you have the latest hardware drivers installed (see IV. NOTES ON COMPATIBILITY)

Players who have the Windows security update KB917422 installed may suffer from an application error when running the Battlefield 2142 demo. This error can be solved by uninstalling the KB917422 update.

Task switching is not fully supported while running Battlefield 2142 demo. If you use functions such as Alt-Tab and other variations then you may experience problems.
