Verizon, and as far as I'm aware, AT&T aren't advocating using existing cabling for your entire home network, though for many people this would be the preferred solution. Instead, they are using it to firstly get their WAN connection into your house, and secondly to get data connectivity to TV STBs. I ran in Cat5 Networking in my house 6 years ago, now I can share my High Speed with two Computers and a Server, and Multimedia.
