6) The Customer service doesn't know ANYTHING about how its supposed to work
7) cant pause live TV
8) cant see HD recordings

The verizon router is NOT required - They tried to tell me that I had network speed issues or signal issues that were causing the pixelation - my bet is its DRM that's getting in the way...

Verizon tech attempted to fix issues by replacing router, replacing the nid, replacing the coax terminations, replacing the splitter at the ONT. Nothing made any difference.

IM happier with the second DVR

I say 'kind of' because you had to actually transfer the recorded file from one DVR to another, rather than just streaming it. This is a big difference, especially because the Series 2 network connection (10 Mbps) couldn't keep up with realtime streaming anyway. It took hours to transfer an hour long show.

Also, by transferring the file rather than streaming it, you now have to worry about deleting old shows in multiple places. Just kinda awkward. Streaming from one box is the way to go.

The word is that MRV will be enabled on the Series 3 TiVo. Can't imagine why it wouldn't be. The issue of streaming HD to a non HD TiVo will also likely be an issue.

I called Verizon and the problem was that they had configured the DVR, but they hadn't updated the 2500 STB to include the 'Recorded TV' menu. They updated that box and now everything works.

My initial impressions - a very good start. The audio/video is clean and stutter-free. Biggest issues are still:

1) Can't schedule recordings on any box
2) Can't stream HD
3) Can't pause/rewind Live TV (not easy to solve)

Two other things. First of all, the Verizon rep told me that I'd have to pay $50 for someone to come out and switch my second DVR box for a 2500 STB. That's really lame. Is there any way around this? I'm supposed to be SAVING money with the multi room DVR.

I hadn't tried fast-forward until now. My experience is the same as NOCMan's: fast forward doesn't work. I get the circle/slash in the upper right corner, and playback pauses. Hitting play again restarts the program.
A couple of nights ago, i discovered that fast-forward and rewind worked on the remote 2500. I thought: Cool, they pushed a firmware update that fixed the problem. But last night, I had the same problem: can't FF or rewind a recorded program from the 2500. So, there's some other factor that is causing it.

My current suspicion: if the 6416 is currently playing another channel when the recording occurs simultaneously (using the second tuner), there's a problem with FF/REW on the remote 2500.

I typically listen to a music channel during the day while I work (at home). But, on the day that the result recording could be FF/REW'ed, I had teleconferences all day and had shut off the music.

Part of the problem is that the complaints are never specific.

When reporting complaints, include your zip code, the channel number(s), the program name(s), and the time(s) when you experienced the problem.

Btw, make sure you have your TV's sharpness control turned to a low setting. I am shocked! Verizon releases a product and charges you full price but it does not work. The software upgrade supports both -1 and -2 boxes. The -2 refers to the second-generation version of the box.

I have not seen anyone post what the differences are, but since the output connections are the same, I assume the differences are in the memory and/or video chipset. The upgrade could have been made to improve performance with faster chipset/memory, or it could be a cost-cutting move, using newer/cheaper components.

Sure you're talking about mrdvr viewing or vod viewing.. we know vod can be fast fowarded.. MRDVR content cant.

First impression was that it brought up the listings faster than the dvr did.

Then I noticed issues.

You cannot fast foward. Why that's not supported considering that you can do it with VOD content is beyond me. So now I'm forced to watch commercials.

Media manager is worthless since we dont run a Windows pc regularly here. It would have been better to make it interface with iTunes then perhaps it would have worked for windows and OS X.

So it's great I can watch recorded content (At least hbo does not do commercials), but I dont believe the 6 dollar increase justifies the cost at all.

I'll keep it until Tivo releases the Series III.

I tried to add a (stereo, 44kbps) WAV file to the music library and play it on the 6416 -- horrible skipping occurred. Converted WAV to MP3 at relatively high variable bit rate, and now it plays normally.

The Media Manager is interesting, but I would like to use it to play WMV's or some other video format. My rep told me at first it was not available but I politely advised the message had changed on the STB. She took 5 secs to check her email and she said 'ok' and we got the order done.

Did you expect someting different. There are no consumer boxes out there capable of converting HD content to SD resolutions on the fly. There are expensive boxes out there that cost thousands that do it but they're for those who are really anal about their video content.

I dont know why they're not allowing HD to go from the STB to a HD STB or from DVR to DVR. I'm guessing Moca is not all it's cracked up to be.
