Unfortunately, all of these phones are somewhat oudated and unfashionable. If at all possible, I am looking to buy a newer flip phone such as the razr or something of that sort. Does anyone know if it would be possible to get an unlocked phone off of Ebay or something and get it activated on my old AT&T "blue" plan.
pepe7 : TDMA is essentially the old system your previous phone had access to. The v180 you currently are having troubles with is a GSM only handset. Cingular is in the process of encouraging everyone still on a TDMA or multiband/GAIT plan to move to a GSM plan. I'd have to see a copy of your contract to be certain, but I assume when you renewed in 2004 you were placed on a GSM only account. The S46 would not be an ideal mate unless you were still on a multi-band plan (the one they had w/ TDMA).

I am still not clear why you would not see the 310-380 in the list since you are still on an ATT plan.

Regarding the ESN, only if you were to still be on a multiband plan and using a multi-band phone like the S46 would this matter. I have a family plan which cingular can not beat.
39.99 for 800 anytime and 9.99 for each additional line.
I also get 19% off my bill and 50% off phones for business affiliations (Which a Cingular CSR said they would honor when I decide to switch).

I have also extended my contract several times due to phone upgrades and what not also. My contract extends into 2009 so I am willing to hold out on Cingular as long as possible until they give me my exact same plan if not a better one. Like I said my reception is still excellent across the country(I travel a bit). Pretty sure my phone uses Cingular towers most of the time anyways, so....I don't know why people have bad calls now. I use a Sony S710a.

Cheers

lgittell : I am so upset right now that I am in tears. I was a loyal ATT customer for many years and had a plan that was untouchable. The plan that I repeatedly continued to re-sign was contracted at $99. per month, unlimited days, nights, weekends, long distance and free roaming; I loved it. I was so upset when the takeover from Cingular arrived in So Cal causing me to lose my reception/service. I could not hold a call for more than three minutes, and when I was on that call it was filled with static. Initially I was not upset with the takeover, at least not until I lost my service... My phone was used all day for business calls; I am an account executive that is out of the office the majority of my day, so as you can imagine being on the phone with clients... it was quite upsetting to have to call them back three or four times to have a ten minute conversation about business. Ugh!! Anyhoo... I am dealing with the collection agency for the early termination fee....

When I first started experiencing the problems, I called CS and they told me that I could keep my same plan and that the problems were from the fact that they were shutting down ATT towers to put up more Cingular towers...they also wanted me to pay an activation fee to change over to Cingular, and because I had just resigned my 2 year contract with ATT 6 months prior, they required that i purchase a new phone at FULL price, mind you, I had just paid $300. 6 mths prior for a new phone that could not be used. I was shocked and asked them who was the Einstein that came up with that great marketing plan????

I feel so frustrated, manipulated and helpless. If anybody wants to contact me about being part of a class action lawsuit... please count me in!!! LgitteLL@yahoo.com

Exception tho, I still have the AT&T service contract, but finally got a new phone out of them back in Oct '05 I think and it hasn't cleared up the Service problem at all, yet... Loosing calls Constantly !... GRRRR
And to think that Sept 1, 2004 I renewed my AT&T contract and then I get the announcement in Oct '04 that "Cingular" has taken over... Ok, so service was ok and no complaints "UNTIL" August of '05... Had a Siemens S46 at that time and no complaints either with the phone, LOVED It !...

So after many times running their tests with them over the phone and all and checking the Tower thingy and all, I got them to give me another phone with all accessories (as I had just in July spent $45.00 on them for the Siemens)... I still have 7pm nites and they offer 9pm currently (sure u can get 7pm for $5.00/month, heck with that)... Plus I got more minutes currently, so what no rollover, was running bout average monthly...

Now ?... the past 2 months I haven't even Used all my minutes and I have 1250 or 1350/month and im 'Only' using around 690 of them  PLUS, all the dropped calls I have aren't even showing up on the bill....

Im at my wits end with them, I tell ya and my credit isn't good cause of an old outstanding Verizon bill from yr 2000

Rgds,
Sherri
