So, for me to load sipura firmware onto my PAP2 with 3.1.6 firmware on it i need to convert from the linksys kind to the sipura kind with this util? Then when I turn off provisioning and grab my GPP_K value, I then get the linksys formware, say 3.1.6 and convert it to sipura format and I do the upgrade? The purpose of this tool isn't very clear on what exactly it does. When I go to load spa2000-03-01-05.bin to my PAP2 it won't do it, so I imagine this is were SPAtools come in.

You connect a phone and use the IRV to get things set up first. Do a reset to factory defaults, set a static IP address with NO gateway address, THEN connect it to your network.

At this point you should be able to web into it. But you have get those files onto your PC and run a TFTP server to do the unlocking.

I got my GPP_K value saved.

But, I want to be able to upload my current setup? It seems from pap2boy's instructions (that I think I got wrong that first time and will have to try again) that the only option is download.

There are a number of confusing references, at least to me, and I will present what I did. First off, the PAP2 that I got on ebay for $30 + $6shipping was at ver 2.0.12ls

changing the source file names that I downloaded, but not the destination file names.

Then I finally figured out the step 4 of above to go to the beginning of thread »[PAP2] Unlocking Guide and follow the steps there, using my IP addresses and the files I created from the 2 DOS commands (not those in the instructions):

Oh, how did I set up my isoloated net? My notebook has a wireless and wired connection. I used a crossover cable to connect the PAP2 to my notebook. Waited for zeroconf to supply an IP address to the notebook (running XP). Used IVR to set an address in the same subnet (after turning DHCP off), I did not have to change anything else (mask, gateway, etc.).

For my TFTP server, I have one that I got from 3COM long ago to apply router firmware updates: »support.3com.com/software/utilit···_bit.htm

So now it looks like I have an unlocked PAP2 at firmware 3.1.5LS.

Now it is time to add my MAC address to the list of unlocked PAP2s!!!

Following the trail of your and other posts I was successfully able to unlock my Vonage PAP2 and upgrade the FW. I was a customer of Vonage, but after about 6 months I wanted to change to BroadVoice so that I could make cheaper calls to Japan --my wife calls very often. I bought an SPA-3000 and then was left with an extra PAP2 until today.

I can not say anything bad about Vonage quality level or customer service. It came purely down to cost for over seas calls.

When I see post like that, it indicates to me those NEWBIES did not even bother to read the posts on this thread. I said this because these two firmwares are well mentioned in some of the posts on the thread. Anyway, if you don't read the thread, that is your business, but don't complain if you encounter the problems that have the solutions found on the thread.

That said, here is all you need to do to unlock your PAP2:

1. Download a copy of SPA2K v3.1.5 firmware, or any version below v3.1.5.

2. Download a copy of Linksys PAP2 firmware, i.e. PAP2-bin-03-01-06-LS.bin or an older firmware will also do (PLEASE AVOID USING PAP2-bin-03-01-07-LSd.bin FIRMWARE UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING). If the link does not work, use Google to find out where to download this firmware.

3. Read this post and use the SPATools.zip to mod the above two firmwares.

4. Then, use the modded firmwares to flash your PAP2 to get it unlocked.

5. With your PAP2 unit unlocked, you can automatically retrieve/decypher a copy of Vonage XML provision file for your PAP2 from a Vonage TFTP server using this VuckFonage utility along with your PAP2 MAC address and GPP_K values (found under Provisioning TAB). Then, you can edit/configure the plain-text XML provision file and have it automatically provisioned through your own TFTP (HTTP/HTTPS) server as shown Here.

6. Last but not least, once you have your PAP2 unlocked, please pin your unlocked PAP2 on the Frappr map for unlocked PAP2s. We sure would like to see this Frappr map for unlocked PAP2s gets filled to show our appreciation to Mr. Wafro and others for making this Linksys/Vonage PAP2 unlocking possible.

Please take the necessary precaution steps to read and be sure to completely understand the procedure. Also, don't forget to save a copy of the GPP_K values (your PAP2 factory default encryption key), otherwise you will be a sorry a$$. Yes, it did happen to so many PAP2 owners already and you will be the next victim if you don't heed the advice to save a copy of this key.
