friscotx64 : hallvord,

God Dag!

I'm arriving "a little late to the party", but I had downloaded 8.5 last week and tried logging on to my SBC/Yahoo account. When I did indeed try logging on to URL »dsl.sbc.yahoo.com/, I was 'blocked' by the screen saying that I had to have Internet Explorer 6, etc.

However, I then successfully accessed the main www.yahoo.com website, from which I successfully logged on to my Mail, using my sbcglobal userid and password. And from there, I was able to click on the Yahoo! link in the upper left corner of the page and get back to the main Yahoo page - still logged in.

Clicking on MyYahoo - however - even though I was now already logged in - resulted in the same blocking page as before.

Today - upon discovering this thread - I applied the patches which you recommended - exactly as you described, but upon first attempting to access my SBC/Yahoo account (even though I accepted all of SBC/Yahoo's offered cookies under Opera 8.5), I was again blocked by the previously-mentioned page. So I tried the same trick as earlier: I accessed www.yahoo.com, logged on to my mail account, then switched back to the Yahoo home page. When presented with cookies, I selected the choice to accept all cookies from this server, and - when I was finally returned to the 'home' page, this time it was my customized SBC/Yahoo DSL page. I bookmarked THAT address, logged off, exited - then restarted Opera.

This time - upon selecting the new bookmark - I was taken to the proper customized page, as soon as I entered my userid and password.

So - all in all - the exercise was a success!

Tusen Takk!!

rmd from Frisco, TX

**UPDATE**

I just tried the former access with my laptop + unmodified Opera 8.50. I got the block page, signed on to www.yahoo.com instead, accessed Mail with USERID and Password, then selected Yahoo! from top left corner. Brought my customized SBC/Yahoo DSL page with all settings correct. Saved this page to my Personal Bar, after which I was able to directly login with no problems - - - - - and no patches. rmd.

[Need] Seeking SBC / Opera testers

hallvord : I work for Opera Software. We know that SBC's customer portal blocks Opera (for no reason we know of) and over the years I have personally tried to contact SBC and Yahoo several times about this issue.

Now I would like to use Opera's new site compatibility features such as UA.ini and browser.js to ensure that all Opera users get access to the SBC site. I need at least one SBC customer to test for me whether the patches I propose will work.

The patches are:

UA.ini entry

dsl.sbc.yahoo.com=5

User JavaScript

if(location.hostname=='dsl.sbc.yahoo.com'){
delete window.opera;
}

I assume that this will give access to the site. If you are an SBC customer and willing to try this and give me feedback, I would very much appreciate it. Please post in this thread.

How to set up patches

UA.ini
1) Locate UA.ini in your profile folder (check Opera's "Help / About" screen if you do not know where your profile folder is)
2) Edit it in Notepad to add the entry given above on a new line at the end of the file
3) Re-start Opera

User JavaScript
1) In Windows create a new folder for your user JavaScripts
2) Put the script above in a file named sbcyahoo.js in this folder
3) In Opera, go to "Preferences > Advanced > Content > JavaScript options" and select that folder as the location for "My javascripts".

That's all, ready to test :-)
