Modems only transmit at around 4-6Mbps, so having anything more is useless.  Besides, I think some modems have a 10BaseT connection only anyway.<br><br>So you can get an IP address from the router?  But not when directly connected to the modem?<br><br>What were you getting in each case?  (169.x.x.x or 192.x.x.x or something else?)]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/0"><b>anon</b></A> : I havent called tech yet.<br><br>XP home<br><br>Yes, but to no avail.<br><br>I've taken my pc to a friends house who has a router (has insightbb as well), I still had the same issues, i could connect to the router, but not the server.<br><br>All drivers are the same as when they came on the pc, i am unable to update further due to the lack of internet connection.<br><br>No, plus my PC is a small form factor and It's extremely hard to get to the NIC at the moment, and I dont want to risk messing my pc up further.<br>I'm pretty sure its good, considering that it works on my old pc.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/0"><b>anon</b></A> : Have you called Tech?  <br><br>What OS are you running?<br><br>Have you tried to manually configure the NIC?<br><br>Have you considered getting a router?<br><br>Have you updated your bios?motherboard drivers?<br><br>Do you have a NIC card laying around you could test out?<br>The cat 5 cable that you are using, are you sure it's good?<br><br>These are just things that I would check into.  I've seen the issue you are having on pc's running xp pro.  but it could also be bad drivers, bad cat 5 connection, basically a lot of things.]]></description>

You should be connected to your modem at 100mbps not 10.  You should check the advanced properties of your NIC and make sure the speed is set to automatic. If it is, then you need to cycle through each setting, full duplex half duplex, etc. until you get a valid ip address.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/0"><b>anon</b></A> : go to run<br>type regedit<br>hit file,, export,, save as c:\regbackup (you don't have to do this, but it'll give you a way to go back if you accidentally mess something up in here)<br><br>find and delete:<br>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\<br>Services\Winsock<br><br>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\<br>Services\winsock2<br><br>then close this out.<br><br>control panel/network connections....right click on local area connections<br>click properties<br>click install<br>click protocol<br>click tcp/ip<br>etc etc.<br>reboot <br>try again<br><br>((if tcp/ip wasnt an option,, click have disk,, point it to c:\windows\inf\   , then click microsoft, then tcp/ip))]]></description>

I assumed you had sp2 when you said 'new computer'.<br><br>A quick fix would be to hook your cable modem up to the computer w/ your usb cord and run the driver disc for the modem.<br><br>I'll get back to you in a minute w/ the process for repairing the winsock w/ out service pack 2.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/0"><b>anon</b></A> : alright, bear w/ me this could be lengthy.<br><br>1st, we need to establish that you are recieving an IP address from your cable modem.  click start, then control panel, then network connections, then right click on your Local Area connection (your ethernet card).  Click status, click the support tab.  Here you will see your IP address.<br><br>If your ip address starts w/ 192.xxx.xxx.xxx then your modem doesn't have an ip (its a cable problem).<br><br>If your IP add. = 10.xxx.xxx.xxx then your modem and card are working properly but you need to register your new computer through sas.<br><br>If your IP starts w/ 12.xxx.xxx.xxx then you are registered properly and something is up w/ the pc.<br><br>Here's what to do in these scenario's.<br><br>scenario 1 (192xxxxx) call insight.<br>scenario 2 (10.xxx.xxx.xxx)<br>go to &raquo;<small>https</small>://<A HREF="https://sas.r31.insightbb.com">sas.r31.insightbb.com</A> and follow along<br>if it doesn't work once you've followed through the process<br>then you may need to reset your modem, once the modem is back online then renew your ip on the computer (or restart it, your choice).<br>If that fails then do this:<br>open internet explorer<br>click 'tools'<br>click 'internet options'<br>click 'connections' tab<br>click 'lan settings'<br>make sure both boxes in the top section are NOT checked<br>check both bottom boxes<br>enter sas.r31.insightbb.com as the address<br>enter port 8000 <br>click advanced<br>in the bottom box ("do not use proxy yadayayadayda") enter:<br>*.r31.insightbb.com<br>click ok, ok etc <br>typed &raquo;<small>https</small>://<A HREF="https://sas.r31.insightbb.com">sas.r31.insightbb.com</A> in the address bar hit enter<br>follow through the promts etc (replace, etc)<br>go back and remove everything that I just had you enter.<br>renew ip (or restart computer)<br>should be good now<br><br>In the third scenario (12.xxx.xxx.xxx)<br>somethings weird w/ the pc.<br>you say from the command line you can ping and address?<br>can you ping only number addresses (such as 128.210.10.11), or can you ping www.yahoo.com.<br>If you can only ping numbers, then there is something keeping you from getting to the dns server, search for solutions to that online.<br>if you can ping www.yahoo.com, then your computer is able to get online, but something is stopping your windows based stuff from getting online.<br>Can you check email etc?<br><br>here are some things you can try, one at a time, in this order, check to see if your internet works after each one:<br>-------------------------------<br>Make sure you dont have anything checked in the internet explorer connections setup (from above scenario).<br>----------------------<br>try opening your 'network connections', right click on 'local area connection' and disable it, then enable it.<br>-------------------------------<br>make sure your 'security' settings are at the default levels in the internet settings.<br>-----------------------<br>try downloading and running ad aware se<br>----------------------<br>try going to the command line and typing <br>netsh winsock reset catalog<br>then restart the computer<br>---------------------------<br>try uninstalling and reinstalling your ethernet card adapter driver.<br>----------------------<br><br>good luck]]></description>

All went well until I restarted the pc. Since I did that I have not been able to connect to the internet whatsoever.<br><br>I have tried many solutions and I am about to pull the hair out of my head.
