So Cox cable and DSL (Either Covad or Verizon) are the only options. I had Covad DSL (Covad leased a dry-pair from Verizon to provide the service). At 16,000 feet from my CO Covad had to work hard to give me 1.5/384 speed with reliability, but in the end it worked well for 5 years. But 1.5 was the speed limit. I also tried Verizon DSL - the best they could do on my other copper pair was 860/128. That was a non-starter. Who believes it - Verizon couldn't come close to the quality service I got from Covad... And Verizon owned the lines to begin with.

Anyway... FIOS may be different, but Verizon is still the phone company, and unless they change the color of their spots, I think Cox may have an edge for the time being.

Cox clearly can deliver Video and Data reliably and are breaking into the phone service business.
NerdOne : I have a question. What about the rest of Cox's serviceable areas? Are the rest of us going to see any upgrades on the premier and preferred tiers in June 2005? The premier tier at 15Mbps down and 2Mbps up for $55 per month looks sweet than 5/768. Even 5Mbps down and 2Mbps up looks sweet at $40 per month and better than 4/512. But I bet living in a non Verizon area like SBC, we aren't going to see anything for a while. Cox probably will have to lower the prices for their high speed Internet services in rest of their areas, or do something to keep subscribers since it's not even right that NOVA is going to see speed upgrades, and the rest of us aren't going to see much of anything in June 2005. Just very curious.

Thanks,

Helen
