It doesn't stop spam. It might slow it down from that ISP's IP block but spammers will just find other ways to cram their junk down our throats.

Only a world wide phase-out of SMTP and a more secure replacement will have a chance of actually stopping spam.

SMTP: Spam and Malware Transfer Protocol. Also used on rare occasion to transmit e-mail messages.
