anon : Out of the various, tacked on fees, on my POTS line I was paying $.52 a month for 911 sevice. The total amount of these add ons was $10.73. I'm not sure how every state does this, but in most cases these monies go into the general fund and are then distributed out. This means that not all 911 monies get spent on 911 service etc. This could account for the poor 911 service experienced by many people. So, yes, as many people drop their POTS service, states and municipalities are going to fight to keep their cash cow.
