Jericho34 : This is my second attempt to make a post tonight. The first was all but ready when I clicked on preview,WHAM! Down goes Comcast again!!!! Page cannot be displayed. Click back and presto! Everything you type has disappeared into the Comcast ether. Oh well, you learn something new all the time. (I’m typing this first in Word).

I will repeat what I said before. This is more than a DNS problem! This is MORE THAN a DNS problem! Somebody please, please listen. Joebob38? Start a new thread?

I do NOT use Comcast DNS. I have DNS running on a Windows 2000 server running on my network. I have had problems since Tuesday 12APR2005. No connection, slow connection, you name it. AOL instant messenger is at times constantly trying to reconnect. AIM does NOT use dns. Xbox, ip to ip address games keep loosing connection. DNS not needed here either. I tried to listen to XM Radio online, player kept buffering on every song. I’ve streamed a 1440k internet radio station without a hiccup before. Now streaming an mp3 stream is not possible.

Last Friday night my connection tested less than a dial up. Sometimes it was completely dead, even though the modem showed I was still connected. It was like that till about 1:35am Sat. Then it came back, like nothing was wrong. Tonight was the same deal, dead one minute, up and running the next, and then dead again. I tried to download my email. Hung up at 3 out of 36. Made 3 more attempts, zips right up to 18 of 36, hang…. Couple of more tries and it takes off. I tried to update windows media player, received 78% of the file and quit!. It took my son 24 hrs to download service pack 4 for windows 2000 last week.

I think I read in one of these threads that Comcast had launched VOIP in some new markets last week about the same time the DNS servers crashed. It that right?
This article was linked to on SlashDot »www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/pulp···303.html . It explains how Comcast plans on putting the screws to other VOIP providers on their network. Maybe their servers cannot tell the difference between voip packets and my packets or your packets.

Last night on the David Lawrence show, he talked about the problems Comcast was having. He said it was due to a service upgrade and most likely these problems would continue into May. I hope not.

DNS just means the page would load a bit slower then normal, and the issue would be corrected by switching to an alternate DNS server, like other Comcast DNS servers (that can be found here).

rockotman : And at what cost? I do failsafe systems for submarines. They do not come cheap, nor as do the systems for aircraft, as I am sure you can attest. Planes crash. Subs bump into undersea mounts.

But I do agree that Comcast (CC) should do a better job of keeping their system up and running.
