I did a minor speed test of both the Official and Stipe builds this afternoon. The difference was ever so slight. My theory on that is that the Mozilla Devs are starting to add some of the tweaks that the 3rd. Party devs have been using all along.

It only makes sense that the MozDevs would start including proven enhancements.

Right now I am using the Official Nightly zip as Stipe's build messed up a few extensions. They need updated anyway, but I will go back to Stipe's build later in the week. I bounce around and use what I think is working best on my machine.

Thanks Grail but I went, like I gather you did, with a stipe 1.0.3/1.0.4 version. In the space of the last 24 hours I have used some 3 different builds (first the zip 1.03 but I did not want the Dom Inspector - I really like things lean - then the one with the installer where I can choose not to install Dom Inspector and finally s8V4) and I gather you are running two versions. Have you done some comparisons for speed between the two?

Same problem, so this time after renaming my profile folder & letting FF 1.0.3 remake a new profile, I started FF and re-installed every extension I had installed in the other profile. I then copied over all the text files that I had edited as well, user.js, prefs.js, and the userChrome.css & userContents.css in the chrome folder from the profile that didn't work to the new profile. FF 1.0.3 works fine now. And if I run one of the earlier FF's (like the last Autofox) it works fine with the new profile as well.

So the big question is WHY? :D Both profiles have the same extensions & themes installed, the same edited files, but FF 1.0.3 was picky over the first one. Ah, the fun adventures playing with nightly builds. ;) (Of course, if Mozilla hadn't stopped providing ZIP files for the ones they offer on their main download page, I WOULDN'T have to use the nightly builds to get a Non-Installer version of FF!!! :mad: )

I did discover another neat use for Listzilla though. I had it make a HTML list of all my extensions & themes before I started. When 1.0.3 was running,I then dragged the extension list html file into the browser & made it my homepage. I them just went down the list & clicked on each link to install that extension. Made it easier when restarting the browser each time! ;) Same with the themes HTML file.

Ok, here I go again. (The good news is, you won't have to listen to me much in the Mozilla Forum anymore, unless I can maybe help someone out at times).

I'll be honest with you.
I've recently come to realize that the "Novelty" has indeed started to "wear off" for me....how sad.
I realize I said earlier that I "like tweaking", but upon further reflection, I think this is almost becoming comical now.

Personally, I'm about as close as I've ever been to yanking this "never ending Beta" (and I'm talking since DAY ONE of the release of Firebird), from all four of my machines.
I may keep it on one "just for fun", but trying to keep up with this nonsense on four of them is just plain silly now.

To people that continue to think this Browser is the greatest thing since sliced Bread, and continue to rag on Microsoft, all I can say is that as far as I'm concerned, this project is almost a joke now.
I can't help but wonder how long it will survive. (Unless of course Microsoft buys it). :D

I may be "Cruising With Opera Beta 3" myself shortly.
Or just continue to use IE and Maxthon while eagerly awaiting IE7, where I can enjoy browsing instead of spending half of my life uninstalling and reinstalling a bunch of back yard experiments.

Good point on the use of MS Anti-Spy (Old Giant). Hell, I use it myself. Not all MS products are horrible yet the mind set of some would suggest MS is the bane of mankind.

I have 50 tried and true extensions installed. Only 2 failed when I switched to v1.0.3. I am not saying I need all of these or even half, I just figured as long as I am installing daily builds of one type or another I may as well put FF through it's paces. The most ever was 70 installed back with v0.9 and that was thanks to Carson who convinced me it was fun to try and break FF on a daily basis plus it is good feedback to the extensions devs.

For many people IE is just convenient and they have no need or desire to switch to Firefox. A lot of people even remain unharmed from running IE. With Longhorn on the horizon even if it were to be late by a year all bets are off for the Fox taking over.

I will keep using it as many will, but growth as you pointed out will be at a trickle. Who know MS could wave enough money in front of the right faces and FF could be back to square one. Lets hope not.

An excellent question!

I've been around only a short time, but long enough that most of you know how I feel about a few certain issues.

***People also know that I both love and use Firefox.
I also use IE and look forward to the release of IE7.

What I have a hard time understanding though, is why (more often than not it seems), Firefox users have to constantly jump all over IE users as if they were some kind of disease or something.
Why always the "holier-than-thou" attitude among FF users?
(Keep in mind I'm not pointing fingers at anyone specifically).

Firefox is not without faults, far from it in fact.
And IMHO a Looooong way for being a Browser that the "average" user (namely 90% of the World) can fully understand and use without a lot of tweaking.

To get back to the original point, while I'm sure I will continue to use Firefox, (remember, I like tweaking), I think if IE7 is any good at all, there will indeed be a lot of people that will have had enough of all this nonsense of trying to successfully update while keeping everything "working", among other never ending irritations.

I also feel that serious exploits will become more common as the Browser becomes more popular. (That is if it does).

Only my VERY HUMBLE OPINION (again).
Sorry, I know many are tired of hearing this same ol' speech.

Just remember.....Firefox is not some sort of "Digital God".
It's just another Browser.
And people can dump it as quickly as they found it. (Especially if they don't eventually get their act together).

I am going to sit on this v1.0.3 build I am using as it is working very well unless Stipe grabs one and optimizes it.

I am not to concerned about extensions breaking as they usually break from version release to version release and get updated. They kind of drive each others development in that respect.

Read the comments about broken extensions etc. I think we will be very lucky to have 1.1 come June (it was supposed to be March not too long ago). I will live with the vulnerabilities in my 1.02 until some stability is obtained here.

I don't overwrite the current folder, I always rename it & extract the file so it's a new browser folder, but for some reason it doesn't want to run unless I let it make it's own profile. Which is weird as I haven't had that problem with all the other Nightly Builds before, they all used the current Firefox profile & worked. Of course some would disable any extensions that didn't work with the new one, but one could still USE the Browser. ;)
