bcronin : An addendum, I found I needed to disable the SIP application level gateway under "Special Applications" to get things to work right. Without doing that, I could make outgoing calls (in that there was a dialtone and I could enter numbers) but they would never complete (in telco parlance they went "high and dry"). Also, incoming calls would ring the phone but they could not be answered (e.g. I called my home number from my cellphone and it rang, but when I picked it up, I kept hearing ringing sounds in the earpiece of the cellphone, the call was never connected even though the home phone had been picked up). Disabling the SIP ALG fixed these issues. The bottom line is (a) the workaround is to use a static IP for the Moto and to disable the SIP ALG and (b) Ubicom/Dlink has a bit more work to do to fix this than just fixing the DHCP issue (at least to my satisfaction ;-).

Bob Cronin

bcronin : It doesn't work. The only hope is for Ubicom and/or Dlink to get ahold of a Moto VT1005 and test it to find out why, then (assuming it is possible), fix it. Then we wait for a firmware update. I have some hope this may eventually occur as I did have a conversation with a support engineer who was actively trying to get ahold of a VT1005. I was considering lending them mine, but the logistics proved to complicated. The last I heard they were trying to get one off of eBay. That was 10 days ago. I haven't heard a word since. During all this it was claimed that it "should" work OK with the LinkSys PAP2 and so I was briefly toying with trying to get Vonage to RMA my VT1005 for a PAP2, but the combination of Vonage "customer service" never answering my inquiry plus some others here with some less-than-comforting experiences with the PAP2 (both with respect to its interoperability with this router as well as general call-quality issues) led me to abandon that plan and wait for a fix (which may possibly never happen). All in all, a typical Dlink experience (only one Dlink product I ever bought actually worked from day one with no issues, the DI-604 that I am still using). I have a closet full of Dlink equipment abandoned for one reason or another (that Dlink never did fix). You'd think I'd have learned by now not to trust the Dlink marketing hype. Sigh. This time I have learned, for sure, this time I have learned for sure ...

Bob Cronin

I can't put the Moto in front of the router because that causes the VPN client I need to use to do my job to not work. Besides, what would be the point of getting the DGL-4300 in the first place if I was going to stick it behind the TA? I got the DGL-4300 to take advantage of its unique capabilities to improve throughput of VOIP and gaming traffic. That would not work if the TA was in front of it. In every post I have made on the subject I have specifically said that it does not work with the Moto VT1005. Other TA's may work, but the Moto box does not. Someone suggested to me offline that I should try to get Vonage to RMA the Moto and replace it with a LinkSys PAP2 (which they claim is known to work OK with the DGL-4300). I may just do that. In any event, the secondary purpose of my posts is to warn anyone else who may have the Moto box that they may have problems if they get this router.
DGL-4300 & Vonage

scots : Help! I just got the DGL-4300 last night. So far I love it and everything seems to be working great...except for ONE thing. I can't get my Vonage working with it. I've had Vonage for about 2 1/2 years now and have never had problems with it until I got the DGL-4300. I've used Vonage previously with a Netgear router and a Motorola router. I never had to do anything special to get it working in the past...no port forwarding, no special settings, etc. When it's connected to the DGL-4300 I can't make or receive calls. I get a dialtone, but when I dial any number all I get is a busy signal. When someone calls me it rings and I get the caller ID info, but as soon as I answer it disconnects. I connected the Vonage adapter directly to my cable modem instead of to the DGL-4300 and it worked fine. Put back on the DGL-4300 and same problems. The Vonage web site mentions something about forwarding some UDP ports, so I tried that. Still didn't work (although I'm not sure I put the info in the right places). I also tried putting the Vonage adapter on the DMZ and that didn't help either. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions I can try out? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
