By bandwidth hog, I did not mean those that saturate the downstream every now and then. If you look at average DAILY bandwidth use you will be surprised how little it is so additional downstream bandwidth will not enhance the Internet experience much.

Often, when you try to use 1/4th or more of the available bandwidth on the average suddenly your find yourself being classified as bandwdith hog. By analogy, these broadband companies would like to offer a cake but they are not happy if you eat your cake all. So, size of the cake does not matter if you can only eat so much of the cake. (size being 3Mbps, 5Mbps etc) The size of the cake (bandwidth) is effectively an advertising item.

I also see that you could use more upstream bandwidth as well. Now, that is something to enhance your internet experience. I definitely would like to see more upstream bandwidth increase rather than a yet another downstream boost. If upstream is not going to keep up with downstream, I would rather stay at my current levels and pay less. I have very little use for additional download speeds but I could use significant upgrades in upload speeds.
